2 System requirements:

The following software versions are required for operation of GLT3010 as controller for heat
recovery application in LDSWin:

Multicompressor controller VS3010C: version 4.96

GLT3010 firmware: version 1.10

for integration in LDSWin: version 2.2.2 (Build 610)

Store computer CI3000: CI3000_424

The control algorithm of the controller is programmed in CodeSys version 2.3.9.22 (Build Jun 10
2010). Codesys target file GLT3010 and Codesys-CAN library EckCAN.lib are used.

3 Type of heat recovery control

Heat recovery controller either consists of 1 or 2 control loops. The 0-10V customer signal for heat
claim is generated by one of the 5 (for 1 control loop) and up to 6 variants (for 2 control loops) as
listed in chapter 3.1
Gas cooler bypass may be authorized or locked for operation.
In case of the design with 2 control loops a secondary loop can be supplied. The 0-10V customer
signal is then distributed according chapter 3.2.
3.1. Variants for the definition of the 0 to 10V customer signal:
- V1: 0 to 10V signal as analog input
- V2: is generated via 2 digital inputs
- V3: dependent on the water inlet temperature
- V4: dependent on the storage temperature
- V5: dependent on the temperature difference
- V6 (only for control loop 2) 0 to V-signal control loop 2:= 0 to V-signal control loop 1
3.2. Distribution of customer signal to two control loops
The customer signal first switches the first control loop up to maximum operation. If the recovered
heat is not yet sufficient, the second control loop is activated and powered up.
3.3. Assignment of the control loops
The control loops must be assigned to the multicompressor control during commissioning via the
corresponding CAN address.
3.4. Settings in the multicompressor control system
For commissioning the multicompressor systems must be set for heat recovery and heat recovery
pump modes.

4 Description of operation and operating conditions

GLT3010 controls and regulates the activation and deactivation of heat recovery operation and
different operating conditions, pump speed in the secondary circuit and opening and closing of the
valves. It checks system failures and generates corresponding failures reports (see alarms 6).
4.1 Start of heat recovery
4.1.1 Following conditions must be satisfied:
- No relevant failures or alarms (see below)
- CO2 pressure has exceeded a starting setpoint
- Digital heat recovery claim signal is active
- 0-10V customer signal value is above 0.1V
If all conditions for the heat recovery start are met, a digital output signal will trigger.
Furthermore this output signal is maintained as long as the gas cooler bypass operation is active or
the gas cooler bypass motor valve U102, U202 is open.
The motor valve discharge side, U101, U201 opens for the heat recovery operation. Besides that it
remains open as long as the gas cooler bypass operation is active or the gas cooler bypass motor
valve U102, U202 is open.
4.2 Interruption of the heat recovery start
The heat recovery start will be terminated if the motor valve U101, U201 has not completely
opened after a certain time. After a dead time a second trial to start heat recovery is made. In case
the valve still does not open, another trial is only made after a reset.
4.3 Termination of heat recovery
- Relevant failures or alarms (see below)
- CO2 pressure has fallen below a stop setpoint
- No digital heat recovery claim signal
- A 0-10V customer signal is smaller than 0.1V
4.3.1 Relevant failures or alarms
- Breakdown of pressure and temperature sensors for water and CO2 (U142, U143, U133,
U134 or U242, U243, U233, U234, respectively)
- Leakage of heat exchanger
- Failure of pump
4.4 0 to 10V customer signal
The fluctuations of the 0 to 10V customer signal are limited to a maximum value per time interval
by a ramp to protect the refrigeration system.
4.5 Pump control
As soon as the motor valve is not completely closed the pump starts. The pump runs after every
new start for 1 minute with a defined starting speed, afterwards dependent on the controller signal,
but with a minimum speed. The pump will only stop when the motor valve discharge side has been
completely closed.

When the gas cooler is active, the smaller actuating signal resulting from the control deviation of
the CO2 or water outlet temperature controls the pump.

In case of two control loops with a joint secondary circuit the pump speed is increased by an offset
from a further control algorithm when the CO2 outlet temperature of 50 °C is exceeded.

Page 5 06.06.2011
GLT3010 V1.00

4.6 Pump bypass/2nd heat exchanger

4.6.1 Partial load solenoid valve pump U121 (U221)
The partial load solenoid valve pump opens when:
- the actuating signal of the pump has fallen below a lower level
- and an upper level is afterwards has not been exceeded any more
4.6.2 Partial load solenoid valve for heat transmitter U122 (U222)
The partial load solenoid valve for heat transmitter opens when:
- customer signal exceeds a setpoint
- and CO2 pressure has exceeded an upper level
- and CO2 pressure has afterwards not fallen below a lower level any more
4.7 Gas cooler bypass operation
4.7.1 Activation

4.7.2 Conditions
- Heat recovery operation is active
- No breakdown of temperature sensor for secondary medium inlet (U132 or U232)
- Gas cooler bypass operation is authorized
- Customer signal has exceeded an upper level
- Customer signal has afterwards not fallen below a lower level any more
- CO2 pressure has exceeded a transition pressure or a dead time has expired
- Water inlet temperature is below 33 °C

The gas cooler bypass motor valve (U102 or U202) opens. The gas cooler bypass operation is
reached when the valve is fully opened.
4.7.3 Pump control during gas cooler bypass operation
The largest actuating signal resulting from the system deviation of the CO2 or water outlet
temperature controls the pump.
The setpoint for the CO2 temperature (subcooling) is depending on the calculated pressure p.
4.7.4 Transition pressure
The transition pressure depends on the conditions of the secondary medium.
4.7.5 pMin
pMin is calculated from the flexible average value of the water inlet temperature and the setpoint of
the water outlet temperature.
4.7.6 Calculation of the high pressure setpoint and transmission to the VS3010C
The high pressure setpoint is determined in the GLT and transmitted to the VS. The pressure is
calculated via a complex function in which the operating conditions of the refrigeration system, the
heat requirement and the conditions of the secondary medium are implemented.
4.7.7 Termination
if:
- Customer signal has fallen below a level or
- Digital heat recovery claim signal is no longer active
- Pressure CO2 exceeds a setpoint
- Water inlet temperature is higher than 35°C.
4.7.8 Procedure for termination
Termination is delayed until the CO2 pressure pMin is reached.
Gas cooler outlet temperature is called by the VS3010C via CAN.
Gas cooler bypass motor valve (U102 or U202) closes.
