The electric submersible pump (ESP) is an effective and
economical method of lifting large volume of the fluids from
downhole under different well conditions. ESP system requires a
large electricity supply, but it is less complex and more efficient
than delivering gas to gas lift systems.

Discussion:-
What’s a ESP ?
The electrical submersible pump, typically called an ESP, is an
efficient and reliable artificial-lift method for lifting moderate to
high volumes of fluids from wellbores. These volumes range from
a low of 150 B/D to as much as 150,000 B/D (24 to 24,600 m3/d).
Variable-speed controllers can extend this range significantly, both
on the high and low side. The ESP’s main components include:
I. Multistage centrifugal pump
II. Three-phase induction motor
III. Seal-chamber section
IV. Power cable
V. Surface controls

What’s gas separation sensitive ?

a set of sensitivity of gas analyses so to figure out whether the
increase in the production tubing’s ID plays a beneficial role on
liquid production. The only case examined in this section is the
worst case of PR = 2,850 psi and 50% WC. Generally, when the
tubing ID increases, the VLP curve intersects the IPR one at higher
production rates up to a point. At this point, the upward gas flow
velocity has decreased so much (due to the tubing diameter
increase) that it is no longer sufficient to efficiently lift the liquid
to the surface i.e. slip phenomena commence and liquid holdup

increases. This leads to a decline of the production rate. In this
paragraph, it is examined whether slip phenomenon occurs for this
specific case. If liquid hold up is of minor importance and
production is unaffected, the tubing ID can be safely increased and
used for all cases.
What’s operation rate?
All pump (both ESP & HSP) designs should be validated by
calculating sensitivities and ensuring that efficient operation at the
design rate can be achieved over the entire range of expected well
and pump efficiency conditions.
The temperature and dew point must be entered for each set of
match data. All other operations are carried out as for Oil PVT
The calculated PVT properties values should be matched to
constant composition expansion (CCE) data, which is corrected for
the appropriate surface separation, as this process best describes
the evolution of the fluid in the tubing.
Matching the Z factor at dew point generally achieves good results.
