Our hopes and dreams about what to expect from the photo industry next year

slow to see development. While it was
disappointing to some, the camera had
many strong features and deserves an
update. There is speculation as to whether
this will take the form of an EOS R Mark II or
an EOS R8, but we are likely to see a revised
body design (goodbye MFn Bar) dual card
slots and uncropped 4K video. An EOS R5
Mark II is not unlikely either, perhaps with
a 60MP sensor.
All eyes are on the elusive R1 of course,
though even if it is announced, we’d be
surprised if it was available in 2023. We’ll

Check results
Remember that the LCD screen can be misleading about the brightness
of the results, especially if you are shooting in low light conditions. To
make sure exposures are correct, analyse the histogram. An ideal graph
will show a fairly even distribution of tones. If the histogram shows
much closer values on either the left or right sides, some parts of the
image may be severely overexposed or underexposed. That means the
exposure time wasn’t ideal for the subject and should be adjusted.
Select B, T mode
Depending on your visual objectives, light sources
and the time of day, you may want to extend the
shutter speed beyond 30 seconds. To do this,
switch to Bulb mode (B) to take control of the time
the shutter stays open. Remember to work with a
remote shutter release or connected app, as it is
almost impossible to hold the shutter button down
for that length of time without causing movement.
Many high-end cameras have a Time mode (T),
which offers a clear advantage over Bulb mode.
Here, simply press the shutter button once and,
when you want to finish the exposure, simply press
the remote shutter release again.

elements in different ways. Here, the challenge
is to find the right exposure balance.
This makes it more important to learn the
different ND filter types and simple tricks to
balance your photography. An ND filter with
10 f-stops is mainly used in bright scenes and
is ideal for creating a minimalist overall image.
If an extremely long exposure time is required,
remember that ND filters can be combined. In
this way, the exposure time is simply extended
and new visual possibilities open up.
In landscape photography, it is especially
difficult to expose according to preferences, as
background and foreground often require two
different exposure times. Soft, hard or reverse
GND filters can help, as they have a different
brightness gradient from top to bottom and
darken certain areas of the image by allowing
different amounts of light to fall on the sensor.

Make sure you have an audience
Affiliate marketing isn’t something that you can
suddenly start from scratch and immediately expect
to be earning an income from. As with any business,
the first things you need are potential customers and
an audience that is already engaged with your
photography work, your blog or even yourself.
Before you can even think about earning money from
affiliate links, you need to spend time trying to grow
both your audience and their engagement by providing
them with content that they want to see or read.
Always be honest
Trust goes beyond just ensuring that you work with
brands you believe in. You also need to be open and
disclose whether you are being paid from links that you
feature on your blog, website or social media.
But this honesty also extends to reviews or other
content that you produce about the affiliate. For
example, if you have been given a tripod by an affiliate
partner and it wasn’t great, don’t mask it and try to sell
it as the best tripod on the market as that’s the quickest
way to lose credibility with your followers. Either don’t
promote it or be honest about your opinion of it.

The OM-5 is an intelligent camera, featuring an appealing
set of advanced computational tools. In addition to the
Pro Capture mode, the camera also adds in-camera
focus stacking, which composites eight shots into a
single image for depth-of-field control (just as useful for
low-light landscapes as it is macro images), along with
Handheld High-Res Shot that enables you to shoot 50MP
images – or 80MP RAW files when used with a tripod.
Meanwhile, the Starry Sky AF feature makes it
easier to focus on pixel-sized stars, which makes
astrophotography even easier. The camera’s magical
Live Composite mode – for the easiest light painting,
fireworks or lightning shots you’ll ever take – resides on
the ‘B’ mode dial setting for easy access.
These make the camera feel like it punches above
its weight for value, offering next-generation tools in a
budget-friendly package. It’s good to see OM System
