Criminal is a difficult problem that our society has to face nowadays and it

significantly affects many aspects of the world. Criminals have many types and
depending on some types of them governments should have measures to punish them.
Some people think that not all the perpetrators should be sent to jail but they have to
do unpaid work in the community. I totally agree with this idea, not all criminals
should go to prison for some of the following reasons.

First of all, some kinds of crimes that do not harm people’s lives like possession and
delivery of drugs, pickpockets or purse-snatchers are not necessarily kept in jail to
save the national and taxpayer budget. This saves money can be donated for some
social issues such as medical systems in remote areas or building more schools for
children in the mountainous. Second, instead of being imprisoned, offenders have to
take responsibility and make up for the victims by paying a big amount of money and
doing some unpaid work in the community. For example, pickpockets or purse
snatchers have to clean streets or do volunteer work to reform their behaviors and it
can make them raise their awareness and empathy. Moreover, if they have to pay for
what they did, they will cost a lot of money and that is also a way to deter them not to
do it again.

On the other hand, if they commit a crime again or violent offenders like muggers or
murder, these people should be sentenced to jail to keep society secure because they
have a high possibility of re-offending or doing a worse case if governments don’t
catch them in time. Besides, it will create social justice for everyone to work and live
without thinking of how to avoid criminals.

In short, depending on some types of criminals and what they did the governments
should have the right punishment to make these people enhance their passion and have
a quick rehabilitation with the community.
