Im Julio Perez, a senior attending El Capitan Highschool.

Throughout my high school career I’ve

maintained a 4.0+ GPA, aswell as completing several AP/Honors classes and college classes
from Merced College. My goal is to earn a degree in Genetics. I work towards being a better
person and having a better future everyday.

Growing up, I would spend most of my time in my mom and dad’s grocery store. My parents
having this business was one of the best things that could have happened to me. Spending so
much time in that store set me up for a great future, as I learned basic skills like, cleaning,
rearranging merchandise, and learning how to use a cash register. The most important skills
that I learned by far were how to deal with customers, strangers, and basic social and
communication skills that everyone must know. Although it’s not a skill, many people lack the
mindset of having to work to earn things. Most kids today lack exposure to this type of mindset,
so life becomes very difficult when their parents don’t provide for them anymore. My parents
never got a college education, but they have set me up to achieve something that they never
did, and I feel that it is my responsibility to take the chance they have given me to pursue higher
education.

As I mentioned before I want to pursue a Bachelors degree in Genetics. At a young age I

became interested in forensics. When I attain my Genetics degree I will become a Forensic
DNA Analyst. Some of the ways I’ve prepared myself for this career have been through taking
classes like Chemistry, AP Biology, Biotechnology 1 and 2, and Anatomy/Physiology.
