Competency:1

Describe the motion of an object by tracing and measuring its change in

position (distance travelled) over a period. (S5FE- IIIa-1)
Stem:
You know that something has moved because you can see that it has changed
position.
Position is the location of an object. It is an object’s distance and direction from a reference.
point. A reference point, also called frame of reference, is the starting point you
choose to describe where the object is. The car in the first activity has changed
position when it was a
meter away from the trees. This process of changing an object’s position is
called motion.
Types of Motion
1. Rectilinear Motion – the movement of an object along a straight line.
2. Circular Motion – the movement of an object around a fixed point such that
its distance from the center remains the same.
Grade Level
3. Periodic Motion – the motion that repeats itself after definite time intervals.
Grade 5
4. Rolling Motion – the motion which is a combination of rectilinear motion
and circular motion. Acceptable Answer Rationalization

movement from one position to another. Motion can be fast or slow. This
property is called speed.
Motion can be back and forth, up or down, round in a circles, straight in zigzag.
We can change the speed in our motion too. We can go faster or slower.
Everything needs a push.
or a pull to get in moving. This push and pull are called force. A force can also
slow something down or get it to change position.
Friction can also slow something down. Friction is the force that occurs in
rubbing two objects against each other and it slows down the moving object.
When something is moving, you often ask how fast it is going, or what its
speed is.
Speed is a concept in motion which is the rate at which an object covers
distance. You can find the speed of an object if you know the distance travelled
by the object and the time taken by the object to travel this distance. You can
use the formula to find the speed of an object.
Speed = Distance ÷ T

Grade 5 Discuss why some materials are good conductors of heat and electricity (S5FE- IIIc-3)
Electrical insulators are materials that do now allow electric current to flow through.
3RD Quarter Examples: plastics, wood, rubber, glass
SCIENCE All metals are conductors, although some are better conductors than other. Silver,
copper, aluminum, zinc, brass, tin, nickel and lead are some examples of metals.
Copper is the most widely used conductor, though second only to silver in
conductivity, because it is cheaper and ductile (ability of a metal to be drawn into
wire). Aluminum is now used extensively because of its advantages in cost and
weight.
Electrical conductors are materials that allow electric current to flow through.
Good electrical conductors are generally good heat conductors. Examples are steel
and iron.
Electrical conductors are materials that allow electric current to flow
through.Examples: salt water, metals such as copper, aluminum and non-metals like
graphite (a form of carbon).
Metals make good conductors of heat because of their electronic properties and also
because they tend to be denser so that heat transferred by neighboring atoms in close
contact is more efficient. Lighter or less materials like wood, air, etc. make poor
conductors of heat.
Thermal conductors are materials that can transfer heat easily while thermal insulators
do not allow heat to pass or flow through them.
When you are cooking the energy transfer of heat from the stove to the food must occur
effectively. However, it is important that the handle does not get uncomfortably hot.
Through conduction, materials will increase their temperature because the heat can
easily flow in them. Cooking pans are made of metal because energy is passed easily
and quickly between the particles in most metals.

Grade 5 Relate the ability of a material to block, absorb or transmit light to its use (S5FE- IIIe-5)
You see things around you because light is everywhere. Without light, you will not be able
3RD Quarter to see.
SCIENCE Light travels in a straight line. If you are behind a wall, you cannot bend the light to allow
you to see what is behind the wall. The wall does not allow light to pass through it.
Some materials do not transmit light. They do not allow the light to pass through them.
These materials are called opaque materials. Wood, metal, and clay are some examples
of opaque objects.
When light falls on opaque materials, light is blocked and cannot pass through the
materials. The blocking of light on opaque materials creates a black image of the object
called shadow. The shadow formed depends on the distance and the direction where the
light source came from.
Sometimes when light hits an object, it is absorbed by the object. The light that is
absorbed is transformed into heat. All objects that absorb light experience a rise in
temperature.
Dark objects are not only good absorbers of heat, but they are also very effective emitters
of radiation. Light-colored objects reflect more light and heat than dark-colored objects.
This is why it is better to wear light-colored clothes during summer

c. Plant more trees because it can absorb heat and
light and can minimize the global warming
d. Global warming is a natural phenomenon,
besides, I don’t feel the warming of our planet.
Extended Abstract We are still experiencing the pandemic due to Covid-19. In fact, the cases is
still rising every day. Checkpoints are still in force as protective measure to
combat the pandemic. To help authorities/front liners in the checkpoint, what
kind of glasses should cars have, clear or tinted? Why?
A. They should use tinted glass windows for their cars to minimizet the
ultraviolet rays of the sun.
B. They should use clear glass windows to
C. They can use tinted or clear glass for their car windows as long as they
do protective measures like social distancing, wearing of face mask and
using disinfecttant to minimize spread of the virus.
