• Each engine is factory tested to verify power and performance. • Engines are to be used for stationary emergency standby fire pump service only. Engines
are to be tested in accordance with NFPA 25.
• Although FM-UL ratings are shown at specific speeds, Clarke engines can be
applied at any intermediate speed. To determine the intermediate speed power; • Engines are rated at standard SAE conditions of 29.61 in. (752.1 mm) Hg barometer and
make a linear interpolation from the Clarke FM-UL power curve. Contact Clarke or 77°F (25°C) inlet air temperature [approximates 300 ft. (91.4 m) above sea level] by the
your Pump OEM Representative to obtain details. testing laboratory (see SAE Standard J 1349).
• A deduction of 3 percent from engine horsepower rating at standard SAE conditions shall
be made for diesel engines for each 1000 ft. (305 m) altitude above 300 ft. (91.4 m)
• A deduction of 1 percent from engine horsepower rating as corrected to standard SAE
FM conditions shall be made for diesel engines for every 10°F (5.6°C) above 77°F (25°C)
ambient temperature.

AIR RELEASE VALVE
Val-Matic Valve Specification
1 Scope
1.1 This specification is intended to cover the design, manufacture, and testing of 1/2 in. (13 mm) through 6 in. (150 mm)
Air Release Valves suitable for clean or raw water service with pressures up to 740 psig (5100 kPa).
1.2 Air Release Valves shall be automatic float operated valves designed to release accumulated air from a piping system
while the system is in operation and under pressure. The capacity and pressure rating of the valve is dependent on the
diameter of the precision orifice in the cover. A large inlet connection is required for proper air and water exchange. [NOTE:

and air/vacuum functions.]
2 Standards, Approvals and Verification
2.1 Valves shall be manufactured and tested in accordance with American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standard
C512.
2.2 Valves used in potable water service shall be certified to NSF/ANSI 61 Drinking Water System Components - Health
Effects.
2.3 Manufacturer shall have a quality management system that is certified to ISO 9001 by an accredited, certifying body.
2.4 Models 15A and 22 shall be Factory Mutual Approved and Underwriters Laboratories Listed for fire protection.
3 Connections
3.1 Valves 3 in. (76mm) and smaller shall be threaded with NPT inlets and outlets. The body inlet connection shall be
hexagonal for a wrench connection. Larger valves shall have ANSI Class 125 flanged inlets.
3.2 The valve shall have two additional NPT connections for the addition of gauges, testing, and draining.
4 Design
4.1 The cover shall be bolted to the valve body and sealed with a flat gasket. Resilient seats shall be replaceable and
provide drop tight shut off to the full valve pressure rating.
4.2 Floats shall be unconditionally guaranteed against failure including pressure surges. Mechanical linkage shall provide
sufficient mechanical advantage so that the valve will open under full operating pressure. Simple lever designs shall consist
of a single pivot arm and a resilient orifice button. Compound lever designs shall consist of two levers and an adjustable
threaded resilient orifice button.
5 Materials
5.1 The valve body and cover shall be constructed of ASTM A126 Class B cast iron for working pressures up to 300 psig.
Higher pressure rated valves shall be constructed of ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12 ductile iron.
5.2 The orifice, float and linkage mechanism shall be constructed of Type 316 stainless steel. Non-metallic floats or
linkage mechanisms are not acceptable. The orifice button shall be Viton for simple lever valves and Buna-N for compound
lever designs.
6 Options
6.1 An optional vacuum check on the outlet shall be provided when specified to prevent air from re-entering the system
during negative pressure conditions.
6.2 Optional body materials include ASTM A216 Grade WCB cast steel, ASTM A351 Grade CF8M stainless steel, and
ASTM B584 Alloy C83600 cast bronze.
6.3 An optional screened hood on the outlet shall be provided when specified.
6.4 An optional fully-ported brass ball valve shall be provided when specified to isolate the air release valve from the
piping system.
6.5 Valve interiors and exteriors shall be coated with an NSF/ANSI 61 certified fusion bonded epoxy in accordance with
AWWA C550 when specified.
6.6. Low Durometer orifice buttons shall be furnished for low pressure applications.
7 Cross Contamination and Security Protection
7.1 All Air (Release, Vacuum, etc) Valves installed in vaults or flood prone locations shall include an inflow preventer to
prevent the introduction of contaminated water through the air valve outlet. The inflow preventer shall allow the admittance
and exhausting of air while preventing contaminated water from entering during normal operating conditions. The inflow
preventer shall be flow tested by an independent third party to certify performance. The third party shall be an approved
testing lab of the American Society of Sanitary Engineers.
8 Manufacture
8.1 The manufacturer shall demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years experience in the manufacture of air valves. When
requested, the manufacturer shall provide test certificates, dimensional drawings, parts list drawings, and operation and
maintenance manuals.
8.2 The exterior of the valve shall be coated with a universal alkyd primer.
8.3 Air Release Valves shall be Series 15A to 61 as manufactured by Val-Matic Valve and Manufacturing Corporation,
Elmhurst, Il, USA or approved equal.

For Multistage pumps, Hydro static Pressure Test shall be carried out on Suction casing, Inter stage Casing and Delivery Casing shall be tested either individually or in assembled condition at 1.5 times of Maximum
Discharge Pressure.. Suction Casing Pressure- 15kg/cm2 max. If Applicable Hydro Static Test Pressure of the pump (Inter stage Casing and Delivery Casing) is less than 15.0 kg/cm2, Suction Casing Pressure shall be
certified as per that pressure only.
Hydro test shall be carried out on either individually on casing or assembled pump depending upon test pressure.
Casting may be used in applied rust preventive coating condition. In case of CS/Stainless steel casting, no rust preventive coating will be applied.
4 Vibrations & Noise Level shall be measured at Duty Point during performance testing and acceptance values shall be referred as per Approved Data Sheet. Unless otherwise mentioned in Approved Data Sheet,
acceptance criteria for Vibrations and Noise Level shall be HI 9.6.4-2009 / FMUL and KBL Standard / FMUL Norms respectively.
5 Internal Performance Test Record of pump with shop motor for Discharge- Head, Discharge- BKW-Q, Discharge- Efficiency will be submitted for document review.
6 Additional Witness at the time of inspection other than stated above shall lead to additional price implication.

PAINTING / COATING PROCEDURE for


FMUL/FR PUMPS
Painting Procedure Document No : CMP-KBLSTD-FMUL-05

1. Scope
This procedure is intended to cover the method of painting for the pumps
manufactured at KBL, Kirloskarvadi.

(1) The following surfaces shall not be painted


(a) Machined surfaces.
(b) Stainless Steel /Duplex Steel components coming into liquid contact.
(Internal surface of Casing, Impeller & Casing Cover.)
(2) KBL Painting procedure shall not be applicable for following
(a) Instruments and electrical Instruments.
(b) Foundation bolts.

2. Surface Preparation
All surfaces to be painted shall be cleaned with solvent so that no grease, oil or
similar material is present on components and then shall be wire brushed or
Grit blasted to remove rust or scale.

3. Coating Procedure
3.1 Surface Preparation and painting work shall not be carried out under
the following weather conditions.
3.1.1 When the surface is wet or expected to become wet due to
Impending rain, fog or mist.
3.1.2 High winds.
3.1.3 Ambient temperature below 50c or surface temperature less than 30c
above dew point.
3.1.4 Relative Humidity is more than 85%

4. Inspection
(1) Surface preparation will be audit checked once in a day after blasting
using surface comparator or Press-O- film.
(2) DFT shall be audit checked by Digital thickness Gauge for each layer
of painting.
(3) DFT of paint shall be calculated by averaging readings. The following
philosophy shall be applied for acceptability of measured thickness.
(4) All measured value of DFT shall exceed 90% of the specified value.
(5) The number of measurements (which are having DFT less than the
specified value) shall be less than 20% of total number of
measurements.
(6) Final visual inspection shall be done, only after completion of above
activities.

Notes :-
1) Painting process shall be applied for un machined externally surface of
the casting parts like Pump Casing/Top/Bottom casing /Suction
Casing / Delivery Casing / Stage casing / Bearing housing / Bearing
cover / Lantern Bracket/ Casing Cover / Base Plate etc.
2) All finish machined surfaces like suction /Delivery flange face surface
/Shaft OD / Mechanical seal cover area shall be coated with rust
preventive oil.
3) Whenever order is for pumpset i.e with Motor/Engine/Gear Box/
Autoprime, the pump prime mover ( Motor/Engine ) shall be painted
with same colour shade/Type which is used for pump. No DFT
measurement applicable for prime mover.
