The rst document is an ar cle en tled Mark Zuckerberg double down defending A.I a er Elon Musk says
his understanding of it is "limited". It was wri en on 26th July 2017 by Catherine Cli ord. It was published
on CNBC website. It deals with Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk’s divergent opinion about AI.
The two tech giants don’t share the same point of view. They disagree about AI. Mark Zuckerberg, the
famous founder of Facebook, is really enthusias c about AI and its impact on our everyday life. He thinks AI
will help create a be er world, a safer system on the internet.
On the contrary, Elon Musk, Tesla owner, is more worried about the growing place of AI.

The second document being studied is the movie Her by Spike Jonze released in 2013.
In this movie, Theodore is a sad and lonely man who is ge ng divorced. He never got used to being alone
and he decided to try an opera ng system with ar cial intelligence on his computer and gives it a female
voice. The opera ng system calls itself Samantha. Soon, we can suppose that the lead character and
Samantha and will develop a rela onship.

First and foremost, It seems to me that both documents highlight the fact that, nowadays, our life is
a ected by A.I for be er or worse (= no ma er what happens) anyway. They also underline that there are
seamy and bright sides.
Theodore is easily ge ng used to cha ng with a fake woman and likes it although the dialogue of the lm
implies that such a rela onship may be misleading. As for the CNBC ar cle, Mark Zuckerberg insists on the
posi ve aspects of AI but Elon Musk is afraid of the danger it.

The press ar cle is informa ve and unbiased whereas the dialogue seems more imbued (= lled) with
emo on. Its purpose is to show how tenuous the boundary between reality and the virtual world is. It is
meant to make the viewer ponder over (= think about) the dangers of AI. We can't deny that Samantha is a
chatbot voice but s ll, she is able to use irony in the conversa on for instance. Moreover, she's able to
evolve. She can perceive the human feelings. The document may be aimed at raising our awareness. What
is implied is that ar cial intelligence represents a danger, albeit a rac ve. Theodore must be fooled (=
deceived) by its own emo ons.

Likewise, the ar cle also points out that AI can be a double-edged sword. The controversy between the
tech giants stress that AI may take control over humans. This point is exempli ed when Elon Musk makes it
clear that AI could wipe out humanity. Even if Zuckerberg considers Musk as a naysayer, what is striking is
Musk's dismissive reply. He obviously looks down on Facebook CEO pretending his knowledge in the topic is
restricted.

However, the documents di er because their purpose are en rely di erent. If the CNBC text targets
readers who are interested in the news, the dialogue is taken from a roman c movie which is mainly
entertaining despite the message conveyed.

In a nutshell, the documents epitomize the topic Scien c Innova ons and Responsabili es because they
raise the issue of the future role of Ar cial Intelligence in our daily life.
