I. INSTRUCTION: Answer the following questions profoundly.

a. Describe how Filipinos have changed over time in terms of values. What do you think is the most
admirable trait of the Filipinos that we need to preserve? Why? (20pts)

We Filipinos know that we’ve been colonized by other countries and because of this throughout
the time we got influence and adapted their own values from Spanish, American and to Chinese
values that we still use till these days. In my perspective one of the most admirable trait of the
Filipinos that we need to preserve is the Close Family Ties because to me this is one of the most
important thing that we need to preserve because of all people in this world we know that our
own family is the only people we can ran to whenever we’re at our worst and being with them
we also developed some great traits in ourselves not to mention every occasion is really fun and
joyful with our relatives just like they said “the more the happier”. Out of all countries in the
world I think we Filipinos are known to have a close family ties so we should really preserve it.

b. How would you relate the six main ideas of the Western Thought to our own values as Filipinos?
Are there some similarities? Differences? Expound. (25 pts)

Some of the six main ideas can relate to our own values as Filipinos like the first main idea of
Seneca, “what need is there to weep over parts of life? The whole of it calls for tears” I can see
it’s resemblance to our cheerful side because we Filipinos don’t allow ourselves to succumb into
sadness rather we smiled through with it and making it as one of our stepping stones in our life.
Some of these main ideas are relatable to our values specifically in negative traits one of the
example of this is the crab mentality to Pascal’s philosophy. But not all of them are very similar
to each other in fact most of our values are very different than the Western thought especially
the good traits aside from us having these negative values I think we Filipinos always stick on
our good traits rather than our negative traits.
c. Our of all the presented negative traits of the Filipinos, which trait do you think is the most
threatening? Why? Cite some situations where this trait is observed. (15 pts)
If there will be a hall of fame for Filipino’s negative trait, crab mentality would be first in line.
Have you ever felt jealous of your neighbor’s good fortune that you stopped talking to them?
That’s crab mentality in action and it’s not a pleasant feeling to feel. The fact that this trait is
quite common here in the Philippines is scary because this trait is way too toxic because it can
harm one’s performance in life and it can also hurt them to the point that they will isolate their
selves. This trait can also hinder the ability of each other within a certain group and can also
hinder to collaborate with other groups. These are just one of the few examples of crab
mentality and there’s still a lot of it to cite so for me this one negative trait is very threatening.
