Introduction to Language and Literacy

Credit Hours: 3

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The focus of this course is to equip student-teachers with the rudimentary concepts that will guide them to acquire the
necessary knowledge and skills about language and literacy to enable them use language effectively to enhance development
skills of all learners.

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, student-teachers will be able to:

 Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills about the language.


 Use language effectively to enhance literacy development skills.
 Identify how learners acquire language and communication skills.
 Integrate technology approaches and teaching strategies such as discussion, think-pair-share, presentations and
brainstorming.

COURSE REQUIREMENT

Students are expected to attend lectures and participate In class discussion and other teaching and learning activities. Students
are expected to write quizzes and assignments for their continuous assessment. Students are also expected to write the End-
Semester Examination.
