Help Me Hide!

Turkey in Disguise Project

A great project to be completed

both inside and out of the
classroom!
Turkey In Disguise – Teacher Directions

Well, it’s that time of year again! ‘Tis the season for turkeys to hide from
dinner tables all around. How would you disguise a turkey to keep it safe from
Thanksgiving dinner?

Part I – Disguise Your Turkey You will need to find a copy of a turkey you would like to
use. I have a large stencil I have my students trace, but you could print a turkey of your
choice from any source.
 Trace the sample turkey onto thick manila card stock. Cut the turkey out.
(Done in class.) Or, use a pre-printed copy of a turkey.
Using any type of material, crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc., create a
disguise for your turkey. This is to be completed AT HOME.
Be creative! You don’t want anyone to be able to tell your turkey is a turkey!
Part II – Describe Your Turkey’s Adventure I have my students work on this part in
the classroom. You can use this as a creative writing activity or to reinforce your
writing process.

CHOICE A
Narrative Writing
Write 2-3 paragraphs detailing the adventure of your turkey. Describe your
turkey’s disguise and be sure to discuss how this disguise is helping your turkey
escape the dinner table. Give details about where your turkey went or what your
turkey did. Be creative!

CHOICE B
Poetry
Write a poem detailing the adventures of your turkey. Describe your turkey’s
disguise and be sure to include how this disguise is helping your turkey escape the
dinner table. Use sensory details and/or figurative language to describe where your
turkey went or what your turkey did. Be creative!

Remember – Do NOT reuse a turkey

you created a previous year!
Some teachers do this year after year. I am a 6th grade
teacher who teams up with a 5th grade teacher and we do this
each year.
