Drug Symposium 2023

What will happen to you if you use an illegal drug?

In the 11th of December 2023, the drug symposium took place at B Durano Integrated School. It
started at 1 o’clock in the afternoon and ended at 4 o’clock. This symposium taught the studentry an
awareness as they are the most vulnerable group of this social issue. Pertaining to their younger years
which breeds curiosity, influential peers and also the maturity in facing this perennial concern does
matter.

Different student organizations participated at the symposium, there were teachers and guests,
in the person of PO1 Daryl Ian Y. Pantollantino, JO1 Karen Rose C. Lantaca, PCPL Nonette A. Josoy and
PSMC Marlon Remollo. The symposium started with a prayer and the singing of our national anthem. Mr.
Ganny Comahig, the coordinator of BKD (Barkada Kontra Droga) addressed his words of welcome.

The first speaker of the event was JO1 Daryl Ian Y. Pantollano. He discussed that drugs are
substances that change a persons mental state, and drug abuse is the over use of chemical substance like
rugby, Shabu and etc, that can cause hallucinations. The effects of the methamphetamine hydro-Chloride
are, the increase of heart rate, shortness of breathing, promote weight loss and etc. The second speaker
was JO1 Karen Rose C. Lantaca she tackled about the roles of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
(BJMP) the prisoners who are serving sentence for more than 3 years will be kept in Bureau of Correction
and the children in conflict With Law (CICL) will be in the custody under the care of Department of Social
Welfare Development (DSWD). The next speaker was PCPL Nonette A. Josol, who discussed about rape
awareness, she talked about the things that women/men will do to prevent molested/raped and also
how to counter molester.

The last speaker was PSMC Marlon Remollo, he discussed about implementing rules and
regulation. Section 4 (Importation of dangerous Drugs and/or Controlled Precursors and essential
Chemicals.) The penalty is life imprisonment to death, while the fine is ranging from five hundred
thousand. Section 5 (sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, and transportation
of dangerous drugs and/or Controlled Precursor and Essential Chemicals). The penalty is life
imprisonment to death while the fine is ranging from five hundred thousand.

After they informed the students what’s their duty inside the jail, what’s their duty inside the
jail, what’s their rules and so on. Mr. Ganny Comahig and Ms. Keichie Quimco gave a thanking speech on
the guests because they really showed even though they were busy. Ms. Vhan Chloe Lumbaca, the
president of BKD (Barkada Kontra Droga) also gave a closing speech and it was successful event.

Drugs destroy your body and can kill you anytime. If you don’t want to choose to die or go to jail,
then choose a good friend, live the life you wanted and study hard because you can achieve what you
want if you have a goal in life, and so say, “NO TO DRUGS”.
