3 TEST PROCEDURE
The requirements for tests to be applied are given in paragraph 5 of the standard
IEC 62561-2:2018.
All tests were carried out at PITTAS–DRAGNIS testing facilities at Koropi-Attica.
All tests were carried out on new specimens. The specimens have been subjected
to the following tests:

3.1 ENVIRONMENTAL TESTS

(Salt mist, humid sulphurous atmosphere test)

3.1.1 Test Procedure

Three specimens 177a, 177b, 177c, 500 mm long, were subjected to an
environmental test.
The test consists of:
• Salt mist test (IEC 62561-2:2018 ANNEX A (page 25) and according to
the standard IEC 60068-02.52:1996).
• Humid sulphurous atmosphere test (IEC 62561-2:2018 ANNEX A (page
25) and according to standard ISO 6988)

TEST
The electrical resistance of all 3 specimens was measured over a length of
100 mm, prior to the environmental tests.
The specimens are placed in the salt mist chamber and sprayed for a period of
2 hours at a temperature of 25 oC. At the end of the spraying period, the specimens
transferred to the humidity chamber and stored at a temperature of 40 oC and a relative
humidity of 95 oC for 22 hours.
After that, the specimens complying with salt mist treatment were subjected to
humid sulphurous atmosphere treatment. The cabinet is filled with demineralized water.
The specimens are placed in position and the cabinet is closed. The sulfur dioxide
entrains into the cabinet through the inlet pipe. The test machine is programmed to
raise the temperature in the cabinet at 40 oC gradually in a period of one hour and a
half.
The test duration is 7 cycles. Each cycle lasted 24 hours and consisted by 8
hours in the cabinet and 16 hours in the ambient atmosphere at a temperature of
24 oC and relative humidity 58%.
The electrical resistance of all 3 specimens was measured again, over a length
of 100 mm, after the environmental tests.

3.2 ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY

3.2.1 TEST PROCEDURE

Three specimens 1.0 m long, 177d, 177e, 177f, were used to measure the
electrical resistivity.

HENG – Copper Taper Air Rod – CT10C

Protocol number: 177 Pittas - Dragnis Page 7 of 15
The electrical resistance measured over 0.5 m (±1 mm) distance and then the
reading was corrected to 20oC using the appropriate correction factor. The electrical
resistivity was calculated found using the following formula:
𝑅×𝑎
𝜌 = (μΩm)
𝑙
Where: R= Resistance in (μΩ)
𝑎 = Cross sectional area in (m2)

𝑙 = Unit length in (m)

The dimensions of the conductor were measured at three equally distributed
points along one meter and the cross-sectional area was within a (  5%) tolerance (IEC
62561-2:2018 paragraph 5.2.5 page 16).
