1. SAMPLE DESCRIPTION – TEST ASSEMBLY
1.1 SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
Copper Tape B Bond Clamp – BB32B is designed for bonding copper tape 25×3
mm onto metal surfaces. Assembled with one M10 Stainless steel, hexagon head bolt,
nut and spring washer. The clamp is made from high quality copper alloy.
Dimensions:
Length(L): 30 mm
Width(W): 32 mm
Height(H): 10 mm

The material of the connector was compatible with the conductor used. HENG
copper bare tape 25×3 mm – CT253C was used. Stainless steel flat profile was used
as a metal surface.
Manufacturer’s symbol and product’s identification number were moulded on the
connector. The components classification was given on the smallest packing unit.
Component Classification: Class H (Heavy Duty)
Installation: General use.
Intended to withstand a static mechanical load.
Non-permanent connection component.
The connection components were designed so that they connect the conductor
to the metal surface without damaging the conductors, themselves or the metal
installation.
Date of receipt of test samples: 26th February 2019.

3. TESTS
The requirements for tests to be applied are given in paragraph 6 of the standard
IEC 62561-1:2017 standard.
All tests were carried out at PITTAS – DRAGNIS testing facilities at Koropi-
Attica.
All tests were carried out on new specimens. The specimens have been
subjected to the following tests:

3.1 CONDITIONING/AGEING TESTS

(SALT MIST, HUMID SULPHUROUS ATMOSPHERE TEST, AMMONIA ATMOSPHERE TEST)

3.1.1 TEST PROCEDURE

One set of three arrangements (179a, 179b and 179c) was subjected to
conditioning/ageing tests.
The test consists of:
• Salt mist test (IEC 62561-1:2017 ANNEX D and according to the standard IEC
60068-02.52:1996).
• Humid sulphurous atmosphere test (IEC 62561-1:2017 ANNEX D and
according to standard ΕΝ ISO 6988:1994).
• Ammonia atmosphere treatment (EN 62561-1:2017 ANNEX d (page 24) and
according to standard ΕΝ ISO 6957:1988).
TEST
The specimens are placed in the salt mist chamber and sprayed for a period of
2 hours at a temperature of 25 oC. At the end of the spraying period, the specimens
transferred to the humidity chamber and stored at a temperature of 40 oC and a relative
humidity of 95 oC for 22 hours.
After that, the specimens complying with salt mist treatment were subjected to
humid sulphurous atmosphere treatment. The cabinet is filled with demineralized water.
The specimens are placed in position and the cabinet is closed. The sulfur dioxide
entrains into the cabinet through the inlet pipe. The test machine is programmed to
raise the temperature in the cabinet at 40 oC gradually in a period of one hour and a
half.
The test duration is 7 cycles. Each cycle lasted 24 hours and consisted by 8
hours in the cabinet and 16 hours in the ambient atmosphere at a temperature of
24 oC and relative humidity 58%.

After humid sulphurous atmosphere treatment test the specimens were cleaned.
The pickling solution was sulfuric acid, 5% (m/m). Immediately after cleaning the
specimens were rinsed first in cold water and then in hot water and dried under hot air.
The cleaned and dried specimens left to acquire the exposed temperature
between 200C to 300C and transferred to a vessel in a way that the ammonia vapor had
access to all surfaces.

TEST SOLUTION:
Ammonium chloride 107gr which is dissolved in demineralized water so as to
reach 500ml in volume. Then sodium hydroxide 35% (m/m) added to adjust Ph value.
Following to Ph adjustment demineralized water added to reach the volume of 1000 ml.

Test Test conditions

Salt solution: • 95 parts by weight demineralized water

• 5 parts by weight sodium chloride (NaCl)
• The sodium chloride (NaCl) used was of high-quality
containing when dry, not more than 0,1% Sodium iodide
and not more than 0,3% of total impurities.
Ph value of the

3.2 ELECTRICAL TEST

3.2.1 TEST PROCEDURE
Following the conditioning tests and without been cleaned, the three
arrangements were subjected to the electrical test. Each arrangement was stressed
three times by a test current according to table 1 of the standard IEC 62561-1 paragraph
6.4:

LIGHTNING IMPULSE CURRENT (Iimp).

The test current for heavy duty (class H) component is defined by
1. Current peak value: Iimp = 100 kA ± 10%.
2. Specific energy: W/R = 2 500 kJ/Ω ± 35%.
3. Duration: td≤5 ms.
Following the stress test the contact resistance was measured with a source
≥10A as close as possible to the joint. All these measurements should be <1mΩ.

HENG – Copper Tape B Bond Clamp – BB32B

Protocol number: 179 Pittas - Dragnis Page 9 of 18
Following stress test, the loosening torque is measured. This torque should be
greater than 0.25 and less than 1.5 times of tightening torque.

3.3.1 TEST PROCEDURE

A new set of 3 specimens (179d, 179e and 179f) was assembled according to
manufacturer’s instructions. Each conductor of the arrangement was subjected
independently to a mechanical tensile force of 900N ±2N for 1 minute.
