piezoelectric transducers:
Working principle:
Piezoelectric transducers work based on the piezoelectric effect, which is the ability
of certain materials to generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical
stress. This effect is reversible, meaning that the material can also deform when an
electric field is applied.
The piezoelectric effect is caused by the arrangement of atoms in the crystal lattice of
the material. In piezoelectric materials, the positive and negative ions are not
arranged symmetrically, which creates a permanent electric dipole moment within
the material. When mechanical stress is applied, the ions are displaced from their
equilibrium positions, which changes the dipole moment and generates an electric
charge.
