Santa Ana Cagayan:

The Paradise of the Northeast

In the Philippines' province of Cagayan, Santa Ana—officially known as the Municipality of
Santa Ana (Ibanag: Ili nat Santa Ana; Ilocano: Ili ti Santa Ana; Tagalog: Bayan ng Santa
Ana)—is a second-class municipality. There are 35,688 people living there, according to
the 2020 census.

HISTORY: The town of Santa Ana was first settled by the Negritoes and Aetas. Later,
settlers from the neighboring town of Gonzaga arrived then followed by groups of settlers
from Ilocos and Aparri. The area was then called Palawig. Some of the famous people to
lead the local residents include Felipe Agarpao, Briccio Campañano, and Don Julian
Astigarraga.
Elpidio Quirino's Executive Order No. 289, which was enacted on October 21, 1949,
established the municipality of Santa Ana. Many barrios, notably Palawig, were transferred
from the municipality of Gonzaga to construct the new town thanks to the efforts of the
then-governor Nicasio Arranz and Provincial Board members Federico Navarro and
Roberto Avena. Some claim that the town's name, ANA, is derived from the initials of the
three officials. So, to appear more hispanic, they added the term "Santa.".
During the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Port Irene became the
center of national interest due to alleged smuggling of second-hand vehicles

national park. It is situated off Luzon Island's
northeasternmost point.
ANGUIB BEACH
Anguib Beach has grown to be the town's
pride as a result of its picturesque
qualities earning it the moniker "Boracay
of the north." The Philippine Sea's
stunningly brilliant, blue waves converge
with the fine, white sand that lines its
coastlines. The waters are calm and
emanate tranquillity like no other because
they are located in a cove. Often, waves
are as benign as the breeze that blows
across the water. Palm trees and other
vegetation line the beach, providing shade
from the tropical sun and to the attractiveness of this beautiful setting.

NANGARAMOAN BEACH
The white powdery sand and crystal-clear
waters at Nangaramoan Beach are compared
to those of the renowned Boracay Island. It
is situated in the municipality of Santa Ana,
which is part of the CEZA-managed and -
supervised Cagayan Special Economic Zone
and Freeport.

CROCODILE ISLAND
In the Cagayan Province, Crocodile
Island is located just offshore of Palaui
Island. Despite its name, this islet is
completely devoid of crocodiles. The
island's shape, which when seen from a
distance resembles a crocodile lazing,
gave rise to its name. Only a small
number of visitors can enter the island
at once due to its smaller size
compared to the majority of the other locations on a standard Palaui Island hopping
tour. The island's distinctive characteristics include a cliff made of marble that doubles
as a viewing platform and rock formations that resemble fragmented bits of stone. The
town of Sta. is visible from the observation deck. Ana and the close-by island of Palaui.
