A discarded plastic cup in the ocean. It's hard to clean up the ocean without knowing why and
how it gets polluted in the first place. So the first step is to get informed. Go online, turn on a
documentary, or grab a book from the library—there are countless ways to learn about the ocean
without having to move off the couch. Learn how your plastic water bottle winds up in the ocean
in the first place, or how the oil from your engine can travel through the sewer and into nearby
bodies of water.

Pikalawag Beach
This underrated beach is considered by locals as a vibrant place for relaxation. It is located in the
municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo with fine sand and rich underwater resources. Locals
mostly visit this beach enjoying fun activities like boat riding “sakayan,” and also their latest
amenities – the inflatable waterpark.
Sultan Naga Dimaporo or Karomatan is located at the south-western part of the province of
Lanao del Norte. It is bordered on the southeast by the municipality of Picong in Lanao del Sur,
and on the west by the municipalities of Tukuran and Aurora, both in Zamboanga del Sur.
Mantigue Island
Mantigue Island, also known as Magsaysay Island, is a just a small one with a land area of just
about four hectares. It is dotted with mangroves and vegetation on the center and surrounded
with powdery white sand. A declared marine sanctuary, the water around the island is teeming
with vivid marine life making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Mantigue Island is just a 20-minute boat ride from mainland Camiguin. Boats can be chartered to
take you there from Barangay San Roque (near Benoni Port) in the town of Mahinog for P550
round-trip, good for six (6) people.
White Island
According to folklore, Camiguin used to have white sand beaches until the eruption of the
volcano happened. It killed thousands of people and made the beaches rocky and having dark
sand. One area which has not been destroyed by the volcanic eruption is White Island. It is about
2 kilometers away from the nearest beach of Camiguin.
The grains of sand at White Island is comparable to other white sand beaches in the Philippines
like Pandanon Island in Bohol, Virgin Island off Panglao, beaches and islands of Boracay and
many more. The only difference is that it is of pure white sand without any establishments,
cottages or plants.
White Island is located in the northwestern part of Camiguin’s jurisdiction. It is nearest to the
coast of Agoho, Mambajao. White Island is a white sand bar which forms the letter C or I
depending on the mood of the waves that hit the island. It is ideal for swimming and snorkeling
but not for those who have sensitive skins as there are no shades or shelter in the area.
