NARRATIVE REPORT ON REMEDIAL READING AND NUMERACY ENHANCEMENT CONDUCTED DURING

HOME VISITATION AND REMEDIATION

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), since having been declared as a

Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), has irreversibly
affected millions of lives and families worldwide. Its unprecedented speed of
transmission and infectivity has placed a huge burden on essential areas of
governance, most importantly in vulnerable sectors such as the economy,
education, and healthcare. The school year 2021-2022 was really a tough year for
us. The second wave of the Corona Virus-Covid-19 Pandemic greatly affected our
mobilization in terms of reaching out to our marginalized pupils. Several
lockdowns were implemented thus restricting us from Home Visitation and
Remedial program. Home Visitation was materialized during the months of
November to December when the government declared Alert level 1 and the
granular lockdown was only implemented. Cananaman Integrated School planned
out a remediation program by mapping marginalized students from kindergarten
to Grade 8. Aside from Bulig Basa Program, teachers were deployed to five
satellite barangays, conducting reading and numeracy enhancement for their
pupils. As a teacher in Mathematics 4,5 and 6, I conducted one on one tutorials
for struggling pupils and conducted small group tutorials for average to advanced
pupils. Reading sessions were done after the numeracy enhancement. Students
from far-flung locations who are difficult to reach were remediated in the
Barangay Hall with the permission of the Barangay Council. I catered to 14 pupils
from Grade IV, 10 pupils from Grade V, and 9 pupils from Grade VI. 1-hour
remediation, twice a week helped the struggling pupils somehow develop their
reading and numeracy skills. This would have been helpful to students and
parents but in the months of January to February, Reading and Numeracy
remediation was stopped due COVID-19 second wave. Through the Bulig Basa
Program, reading remediation and numeracy enhancement were continued by
the Kabrigada Volunteers.
