5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES:

 Suitable Extinguishing Media:

Extinguish with carbon dioxide (CO2), foam, water spay or dry chemical powder. As appropriate
for surrounding fire.

 Unsuitable Extinguishing Media:

Avoid water in straight hose stream, it will scatter and spread fire.

 Hazards Arising In Case of Fire:

Irritating fumes and organic vapors may develop when material is exposed to elevated
temperatures.

 Special Protective Actions for Fire Fighters:

Fight fire with normal precautions from a reasonable distance. Wear positive-pressure self-
contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and appropriate protective clothing. Firefighter's clothing
conforming to European standard EN469 (including helmets, protective boots and gloves) will
provide a basic level of protection for chemical incidents.

 Further Information:
In the event of fire, cool drums/IBC’s with water spray. Suppress gases/vapors/mists with water
spray jet. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. Do not discharge into the
drains/surface waters/groundwater.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES:

 Personal Precautions, Protective Equipment, and Emergency Procedure:

Wear appropriate personal protective equipments; avoid direct contact with spilled material.
Avoid generation of dust. Do not breathe dust. Ensure adequate ventilation .See section 2 for
significant hazards, section 4 for first aid measures. Also see fire fighting measures in Section 5.
For emergency responders, SCBA is recommended. In case of large spills, chemical resistive full
body suit with anti static material recommended. Work gloves that are resistant to aromatic
hydrocarbons are recommended.

 Environmental Precautions:
Do not discharge into the drains, surface water or groundwater. In case of large spills, prevent
entry into water ways, confined areas, basement or sewers.

 Methods and Materials for Containment and Cleaning Up:

Soak up with inert absorbent material (e.g. sand, diatomite). Transfer to suitable container for
disposal.

 Reference to other sections:

See Section: 8, 13.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE:

 Precautions for Safe Handling:

Handle packages products carefully to prevent accidental bursting. Keep away from sunlight,
heat, and sources of ignition. Ensure good exhaust and ventilation at work place. Avoid contact
with skin and eyes. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Do not eat, drink or
smoke when using his product. Wash hands before breaks and after work. Avoid all personal
contact. Use proper bonding, and/or ground procedures. Remove contaminated clothing or
protective equipments before entering into eating areas.

 Conditions for Safe Storage, Including Any Incompatibilities:

Previously opened containers must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.
Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place. Incompatible with: Acids,
Halogens, and Oxidizing agents. Storage containers should be bonded and grounded which can
prevent accumulation of static charge. Natural rubber, butyl rubber, vinyl coatings are not suitable
for storage.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION:

 Occupational Exposure Limits:

COMPONENTS TWA
Calcium Octoate Not applicable
Solvent Naphtha 5 mg/m3

 Biological Exposure Limits:

No data available.

 Occupational Exposure Controls:

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not breathe vapors. Avoid repeated exposure. Wear
suitable protective equipment. Hold eye wash fountain available if affected or Hold emergency
shower available. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Clean skin thoroughly after
work. Keep working clothes separately.

 Appropriate Engineering Controls:

Provide adequate ventilation.

 Individual Protection Measures:

Respiratory protection: Atmospheric levels should be controlled, in case of inadequate

ventilation wear respiratory protection. In this case half face filter respirator is suggested. Use
NIOSH/MSHA approved respirator if expose limits are of high concentration.
Eye/Face Protection: Wear chemical splash goggles. An eye wash and safe shower station
should be available nearby the workplace.

Skin Protection: Wear appropriate chemical resistant protective gloves by considering physical
and chemical properties of the chemical. Any specific glove information provided is based on
published literature and glove manufacturer data. Chemical/oil resistant clothing is
recommended.
General safety and hygiene measures: Always observe good personal hygiene measures,
wash hands before breaks and at the end of the work day. When using chemical, do not eat,
drink or smoke. Ensure the eye wash stations and safely showers are close to the workplace
location. Routinely launder working clothes and clean protective equipments to avoid
contamination. Discard contaminated clothing or footwear that cannot be reused with proper
care. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
