This document of 521 BC4 cleaning inside tunnel is issued by Production &
Process Department on behalf of JSW Cement Limited, Salboni plant &
forms a part of the JSW Safety Management System.

its external use or discloser, unless specifically authorised, is strictly
prohibited.

PURPOSE:

To establish a system for safely cleaning of 521 BC4 belt inside the tunnel
and identification of Hazards and assessment of risk.

SCOPE:

521 BC4 belt cleaning inside the tunnel safely.

Specific Risks:

1. Slip and fall

2. Entrapped in conveyer belt or pulley.
3. Eye injury for falling of dust or spillage material or during hammering
or using portable jack hammer.
4. Suffocation if excessive dusting.
5. Falls from a height if working more than 1.8 mtr.
6. Dust inhalation
7. Electrocution
8. Reduced visibility.

PPE and Equipment recommendations:

1. Hand gloves: Fabric will normally be cotton or PVC coated must fit
properly.
2. Goggles: to BS EN 166 or equivalent, having dust protection.
3. Dust Mask: Disposable, non-return valve filtering half mask to EN
149 FFP2, having an Assigned Protection Factor. Each mask shall be
used till it is in working condition.
4. Ear plugs: Hearing protection may be required if using jack
hammer.
5. Harness: A full body safety harness having an anchor point
properly in case of working at height or having potential to fall and
get injury. Harnesses shall be examined before use.

REQUIRED TOOLS:

Long handled spade, shovel, hammer, tray etc.

DESCRIPTION:

1. Firstly, ensure PTW, the 521 BC4 belt electrically isolated/ Power Off and
mechanical energy isolated. Proper illumination inside tunnel is requires
as water seepage inside the tunnel creates more difficulty to clean the
floor smoothly. PTW of the particular work need to be checked by
concerned authorizer to start the work.

2. Start Cleaning under the belt, beside the belt and tail drum with standard
cleaning tools. Standard cleaning tools is required because of the safe
work which has been decided during site work under the guidance of
Production HOD and timely communicates to the workmen before starting
of the job.
3. If electrical jack hammer used, the connection must be given where RCCB
provided and supply must be given by electrician.

4. Cleaned material to be lifted through rope pulley system developed by

JSW Civil Department. During lifting of material proper barricading to be
taken as per JSW safety standard.

5. Dust material to be feed on the belt by using proper cleaning tools.

6. Check the belt thoroughly after cleaning, during checking must check
foreign material, cleaning tools etc. should not stuck or left over the belt

7. Return PTW & LOTO certificates as per JSW procedure.

8. Trial run of belt to be taken, during trial run all cleaning workmen must
maintain safe distance from the belt.

9. After trial run Cleaning tools and light to be kept in proper place.
