DAIT – ASSESSMENT AND LEARNINGS

PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

During my On-the-Job Training (OJT), I picked up a bunch of technical skills and knowledge that turned out to be
super useful at work. I really focused on improving my leadership and communication skills. As a Functional
Consultant Intern, I not only learned the importance of good documentation and effective communication but also got
the hang of understanding the needs of businesses and the technical side of things, especially with software.

When I was learning to be a Functional Consultant or Business Analyst, I worked closely with my team to make sure
our projects went well. We talked a lot with developers and testers, shared ideas, and solved problems together. This
showed me how important it is to communicate and work as a team. Hearing different opinions made me better at
solving problems and understanding things. Feedback from my team also helped me get better at writing things
down. I learned that working together is super important for success, and you always need to keep learning in a
changing work environment.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Being a FC Intern, I had hard time understanding complex business stuff and handling lots of tasks with deadlines.
But I got through it by asking experienced colleagues especially my supervisor for help, using project tools to stay
organized, and making sure to tackle the important tasks first. Talking about technical things became easier when I
changed how I explained stuff and how I listened to the meetings and got regular feedback. Learning new techie
things especially with a lot of standup meetings and everyday task deadline was a challenge, but I managed it by
motivation myself and getting also help from my fellow interns and from my supervisor. Overall, dealing with these
challenges showed me how to stay calm under pressure.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology

A significant part of my training as a Functional Consultant or Business Analyst was when I led a project to design
and improve documentation for all future team members. We were setting up new software for an important job.
Doing this not only boosted my confidence but also taught me how to handle unexpected challenges. It made me
better at solving problems and showed me how talking clearly is super important in managing projects. This
experience helped me grow a lot and feel more capable in my job, especially in the larger project of designing and
improving documentation for everyone who will use it in the future.

Client / User and Functional Consultant Implementation Handbook Presentation

At work, it was quite different from school. While aspects like documentation were covered in class, communication
and constant meetings were not part of the school curriculum. This realization highlighted the disparity between the
school environment and the realities of the workplace, and my on-the-job training opened my eyes to this difference.
It emphasized the importance of continuous learning and staying updated in the field, urging me to maintain a
proactive approach to my professional development.

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) program turned out to be quite beneficial, particularly with the introduction of the
scrum method. This method significantly improved the flow of our work and added a positive energy to our team
dynamics. While things were working well, we also saw an opportunity to enhance the program further. The idea is to
introduce face-to-face meetings. These meetings could play a crucial role in fostering stronger connections within the
team and making the learning experience even more enriching.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The scrum method brought efficiency to our tasks, and the positive team environment made the overall experience
enjoyable. However, I think that incorporating face-to-face interactions more could take it a step further by adding a
personal touch. This adjustment aims to strengthen team bonds, make collaboration more seamless, and create an
environment where learning becomes not just productive but also enjoyable.

The company's support was crucial in boosting my confidence. The team's belief in my abilities and encouragement
to push my limits made a real impact. It wasn't just words; their support led to tangible improvements in my design
skills. The company provided opportunities and resources that allowed me to enhance my capabilities in ways I
wouldn't have thought possible.

Additionally, the genuine support created a positive and motivating work environment. Feeling valued as an
employee changed the game for me, significantly influencing my job satisfaction. Work became more than just
fulfilling responsibilities; it became a space where personal and professional growth were actively encouraged.

In summary, the company's support during OJT shaped not only my skills but also my attitude toward work. Their
investment in my development has cultivated loyalty and dedication, making me not just an employee but someone
who genuinely appreciates and aligns with the organization's values and goals.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology

During my On-the-Job Training (OJT), I learned by doing. It was a hands-on journey that gave me real insights into
my job. Tasks like talking to clients and higher-ups, which seemed intimidating at first, turned out to be incredibly
valuable. This practical experience went beyond what I learned from textbooks, helping me understand how things
work in the real professional world. It emphasized the importance of effective communication in practical scenarios.

To future OJT students, here's some advice from my experience. Keep learning and practicing regularly; it's essential
for your growth. Don't be afraid to make mistakes—they're opportunities to learn. If you're unsure, always ask
questions for clarification. Stay curious, pay attention to your surroundings, and observe what's happening in your
work environment. These habits aren't just for personal growth; they'll help you take a proactive and dynamic
approach to your professional development.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

My OJT gave me fresh ways to approach my work. It highlighted the importance of being on time, communicating
effectively, keeping accurate records, and having regular team meetings. These insights aren't just for show; they've
become crucial parts of how I work every day. The impact of this training goes beyond the initial period, shaping how
I collaborate and ensuring a commitment to a collaborative and efficient work style.

a. In my on-the-job training as a Functional Consultant or Business Analyst, I picked up valuable skills. First, I
became skilled at understanding how systems function. When it came to figuring out what the business
requires, I practiced chatting with people and jotting down important details. Testing to ensure everything
works correctly became a significant part of my training. I formed the habit of documenting crucial
information in reports. Additionally, I improved my communication with various teams and became adept at
addressing any issues that arose.

b. During my training as a Functional Consultant or Business Analyst, I collaborated closely with colleagues to
ensure project success. Working with developers and testers, we discussed ideas and tackled challenges
together. This experience taught me the vital role of effective communication and teamwork. Understanding
diverse perspectives improved my problem-solving and analytical skills. Feedback from colleagues helped
refine my documentation abilities. I realized that collaboration is crucial for success and continuous learning
is essential in a dynamic work environment.

d. The big moment in my training as a Functional Consultant or Business Analyst was when I helped with a
tricky project to set up new software for an important business job. This made me feel surer of myself and
taught me how to handle surprises. It also helped me get better at solving problems and showed me how
talking clearly is super important in managing projects. This experience really helped me grow and feel more
capable in my job.

Finishing the Business Process Questionnaire that will be used by the client in the future.

e. My on-the-job training matched up perfectly with what I learned in school. It was like seeing how the things I
studied work in a job. Doing hands-on tasks made what I learned in class make more sense, showing how it
fits in the real world. Handling real problems during training not only made what I learned stick but also
helped me get better at solving issues. It was like a practical version of what I studied, showing that the job
world is always changing. This experience not only went along with what I studied but also made me want to
keep learning and staying updated in the field.

f. The 1st is on assisting juniors on doing their task helping without hesitation. Ensuring that the colleagues are
participating and have I idea on what are the vital information needed to a certain task. Also, they always
have a Weekly Meeting or Sprint Retro where all the people on the team is having a meeting that tackles the
problem, they encounter on doing the task. They also make sure that no left behind on doing task. The one
thing that they always remind us of was the quote “No to Pm, Yes to Chat in Group” because with this the
collaboration with other interns and seniors will continue.

A. What specific technical skills and knowledge did you acquire during your OJT experience and how
did you apply them in the workplace?
- During my On-the-Job Training (OJT) experience, I gained valuable technical knowledge that
significantly contributed to my effectiveness in the workplace. Specially in website development using
Odoo and Mobile Development using Flutter as a Front end complemented by Flask and Odoo for the
backend.

Web Development

I was assigned to develop website landing page using Odoo, where I harnessed its built in Content

response from my supervisor. There were instances when I needed clarification or guidance, but my supervisor
wasn't readily available. To overcome this, I waited for their response. In some cases, I followed up with my
questions to ensure that I received the necessary support in a timely manner.

Another obstacle I encountered was the dependency of my colleagues on my task completion because sometimes
my task is hard to solve because the project is new, even Google and ChatGPT cannot solve the problem in terms of
development. There were instances when they couldn't proceed with their work until I finished my assigned task. To
address this, I communicated proactively with my colleagues, informing them about my progress and estimated
timeline for task completion. By providing them with a clear timeframe, they could plan their work, accordingly,
minimizing any delays caused by dependencies.

Commit issues

I also noticed that some of my colleagues' code was messy and occasionally caused bugs. To overcome this
obstacle, I took the initiative to clean up the code and align it with best practices. I refactored the code, improving its
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

readability, maintainability, and adherence to coding conventions. By doing so, I not only resolved existing issues but
also prevented potential bugs from arising in the future.

Furthermore, I encountered situations where my colleagues' code pushed to the repository would interfere with the
recent code I had written. I am the repository merger for a while. To overcome this challenge, I adopted a systematic

approach. I carefully reviewed their code changes and identified the specific modifications that were relevant to my
work. Then, I manually incorporated their code into the recent version, ensuring that it seamlessly integrated with the
existing codebase while preserving the integrity of my changes.

services, learning materials, project management tools, communication tools, version control tools, and laptops. This
comprehensive provision of resources ensured that participants had everything they needed to effectively work on
their projects and develop their technical skills.

AWB Monthly Sync-up

Furthermore, the program had monthly sync-up sessions to discuss and reiterate the positive aspects and address
any negative aspects. This practice allowed for open communication, enabling participants to provide feedback and
suggestions for improvement. It demonstrated the program's commitment to continuous improvement and
responsiveness to participant needs.

Despite these strengths, there were a few weaknesses in the OJT program. One weakness was the occasional lack
of software developers available. This meant that participants sometimes had to take on multiple tasks, which could
lead to increased workload and potential challenges in meeting deadlines. However, it is commendable that the
program was considerate of this situation and took steps to manage the workload effectively.

Another weakness was the delayed response from supervisors at times. This could hinder progress and cause
delays in obtaining necessary guidance or clarification. Improving communication channels and establishing clear
expectations regarding response times could help address this issue and ensure smoother workflow.

Additionally, the project developed during the program was the first integration of its kind in the company. As a result,
participants had to spend time on documentation since the integration details were not readily available on the

internet. Providing comprehensive documentation or establishing a knowledge-sharing platform could help streamline
this process and reduce the time spent on documentation.

To improve the OJT program, it would be beneficial to address the weaknesses identified. Firstly, the program could
consider recruiting more software developers or assigning mentors to ensure that participants have sufficient support
and guidance, especially when the workload is high. This would help alleviate the potential challenges of managing
multiple tasks.

Improving communication channels and setting clear expectations regarding response times would also be
beneficial. Regular and timely communication between supervisors and participants is crucial for progress and
effective guidance. Implementing tools or platforms that facilitate quick and efficient communication can help address
the issue of delayed responses.

Regarding the unique nature of the project and the need for extensive documentation, the program could establish a
knowledge-sharing platform or create a central repository of information. This would allow participants to access
relevant documentation and resources more easily, reducing the time spent on researching and documenting the
integration details.

In conclusion, while the OJT program had notable strengths, such as a good guiding method, constructive feedback,
supportive colleagues, comprehensive resources, and a focus on software development rituals, there were
weaknesses related to the availability of software developers, delayed supervisor response, and the need for
extensive documentation. By addressing these weaknesses through recruitment or mentorship, improving
communication channels, and establishing knowledge-sharing platforms, the program can enhance its effectiveness
and provides an even better learning experience for participants. These improvements would ensure that participants
receive adequate support, timely guidance, and streamlined access to information, ultimately maximizing their
learning and growth during the OJT program.

Company-provided things

The company also provided laptops for development purposes. This provision of resources ensured that I had the
necessary tools to work on projects effectively. Having access to dedicated development equipment streamlined the
development process and allowed me to focus on learning and creating quality software.

Furthermore, the company offered an allowance and provided lunch meals. This gesture not only showed their
support but also boosted my confidence. Knowing that the company valued my contribution and provided for my
needs during the OJT experience created a positive and motivating environment.

Additionally, the director of the company played a role in supporting and encouraging us during on-site visits.

To further enhance the OJT experience, the company could consider implementing mentorship programs. Assigning
experienced developers as mentors to OJT participants would provide personalized guidance and support throughout
the program. Mentors could offer insights, advice, and career guidance, which would greatly contribute to the learning
and growth of participants.

In conclusion, the company provided exceptional support and guidance during my OJT experience. The HR
department was accommodating, feedback was regularly provided, code reviews were conducted, laptops were
provided, allowances and meals were offered, and the director provided encouragement. These initiatives had a
significant impact on my learning and growth as a developer. To further improve the program, the company could
introduce mentorship programs to provide personalized guidance and support to participants.

i. What advice do you have for future students who will undertake OJT, based on your experience and
insights gained?

Based on my experience and insights gained during my OJT, I have several pieces of advice for future students who
will undertake their own OJT:

Firstly, it's important to have a clear understanding of the path you want to pursue before starting your OJT. Take the
time to study some general concepts and familiarize yourself with the field you're interested in. This will help prevent
culture shock and allow you to hit the ground running when you begin your OJT.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Daily time records

Consistency is key during your OJT. Try to avoid unnecessary absences and be present and engaged in your
assigned tasks. This will demonstrate your commitment and dedication to the program and will leave a positive
impression on your supervisors and colleagues.

Don't hesitate to communicate with your colleagues and supervisor if you find yourself stuck or unsure about what to
do. Asking for help and guidance is a sign of maturity and a willingness to learn. However, before reaching out, make
sure to do some research and search for solutions independently. This shows initiative and resourcefulness.

Make it a point to absorb all the knowledge and experience you gain during your OJT. Every day is an opportunity to
learn something new, so be attentive and proactive in seeking out learning opportunities. Actively participate in
meetings, ask questions, and engage in discussions to make the most of your time.

There may be days when you don't have a specific task assigned to you. In such cases, it's important to keep asking
for a task or project to work on. This demonstrates your eagerness to contribute and shows that you are proactive
and willing to take on responsibilities.

Even if the tasks you accomplish may seem small, strive to have a sense of accomplishment every day. Celebrate
your progress and take pride in the work you've completed. This will keep you motivated and help you maintain a
positive mindset throughout your OJT.

When selecting an OJT opportunity, prioritize finding one that offers not only knowledge and experience but also
allowances or meals. These additional benefits can provide financial support and make the experience more
rewarding.

Networking is a valuable aspect of your OJT experience. Take the opportunity to connect with professionals in your
field, both within the company and outside. Building a strong professional network can open doors to future job
opportunities and provide valuable insights and guidance. Attend company events, engage in conversations, and
seek mentorship or guidance from experienced professionals. Networking can greatly enhance your OJT experience
and contribute to your long-term career growth.

Embrace a growth mindset throughout your OJT journey. Be open to feedback, constructive criticism, and learning
from your mistakes. Understand that OJT is a learning experience, and it's natural to encounter challenges and make
errors along the way. Instead of getting discouraged, view these as opportunities for growth and improvement.
PAMANTASAN NG LUNGSOD NG VALENZUELA
College of Engineering and Information Technology
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Adopting a growth mindset will help you develop resilience, adaptability, and a continuous desire to learn and
develop your skills.

Lastly, before committing to an OJT, take the time to research the company's history and gather feedback from
previous participants. This will help you avoid potential red flags and ensure that you choose an OJT program that
aligns with your goals and values.

In summary, my advice for future students undertaking OJT is to know your path beforehand, study relevant
concepts, be consistent and engaged, communicate when needed, search for solutions independently, absorb
knowledge and experience, actively participate, seek tasks even on slow days, find a sense of accomplishment daily,
prioritize OJT opportunities with allowances or meals, networking and socialization, embrace growth mindset, and
research companies to avoid red flags. By following these recommendations, you can make the most of your OJT
experience and set yourself up for success in your chosen field.

j. What new perspectives or approaches did you gain during your OJT experience, and how did you apply
them in your future career?

During my OJT experience, I gained several new perspectives and approaches that have greatly influenced my
future career. Firstly, I learned the importance of practical problem-solving. OJT exposed me to real-world challenges
and taught me to approach problems from a practical standpoint, considering factors such as time constraints,
available resources, and stakeholder needs. This perspective has helped me become a more efficient problem solver
in my future career, enabling me to find practical and effective solutions to complex issues.

communication style to different audiences. This emphasis on professional communication has been invaluable in my
future career, enabling me to effectively collaborate with team members, build strong professional relationships, and
convey ideas and information with clarity and professionalism.

During my OJT, I also learned the importance of taking initiative and being proactive. I was encouraged to go beyond
assigned tasks, take on additional responsibilities, and actively seek feedback and guidance. This mindset of
initiative and proactivity has influenced my future career by positioning me as a self-starter, someone who takes
ownership of their work and consistently seeks ways to add value to projects and teams.

By incorporating these various perspectives and approaches gained during my OJT experience, I have been able to
enhance my problem-solving skills, foster collaboration, prioritize client needs, embrace continuous learning,
demonstrate adaptability, manage my time effectively, pay attention to detail, improve my professional
communication, take initiative, and uphold ethical standards in my future career.
