Stylistic Analysis of a Poem

Lexico-Semantic Analysis

The poem “The Tyger by William Blake consists entirely of questions about the nature
of God and creation, particularly whether the same God that created vulnerable beings
like the lamb could also have made the fearsome tiger. In this poem, we were going to
analyze the Lexico-semantic features. This poem displays collocational uniformity,
wherein there are words in stanza number 2 and 3 depict muscular aspects of the tiger
such as the poet discusses the tiger's eyes In the second stanza. He wonders where
the fire came from that was put into the tiger’s eyes, referring to infinitely faraway
locations.
In the third stanza, the poet speaks of the tiger’s heart. He wonders what kind of
shoulders and art the Creator must have to twist (shape) the tiger’s heart muscles and
ligaments. Here the poet praises the power and amazing art of God who helped him
create the heart of the tiger. In the third line, he marveled at the power of his creator’s
hands and feet, and stood before the tiger when his heart began to beat. In this verse,
the poet seems to admire the Creator’s physical strength, daring nature, and
breathtaking artistry.
There are also words in stanza number 4 such as collocate the art of forging such as in
stanza 4, the poet praises the tiger’s brain. He wonders what hammer, chain, anvil, and
furnace the creator used to create the tiger’s brain. These tools are used by ironworkers
to create sturdy and heavy items. A tiger’s brain is nothing but iron for a poet. He
therefore ponders the sacred tools used to create the brains of such deadly beasts. I
doubt whether it is strong.
