The ultimate source of
grace manifested by the
sacraments flows from
Jesus Christ Himself, the
original sacrament.
Jesus Christ, the
Sacrament of His
Father
Jesus Christ, the Sacrament of His Father

All throughout the entire life of Jesus Christ here on earth,

from His birth to His public ministry, death, resurrection,
and glorious ascension, the Father was with and in Him.
“Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me”
(Jn 14:11).
He was the incarnate son of God, the human face of
God, the humanity of God, and the visible liberating and
healing love of God.
In other words, Jesus Christ was the Sacrament of His
Father.
Now that He has been glorified and is seated at the
right hand of the Father, Jesus Christ continues to be
the sacrament of His Father.
The mutual encounter of human beings and God, as it
did from the beginning of the incarnation, takes place
through the Church, the sacrament of Christ.
Jesus Christ, The
Visible Sign of
God's Love
Jesus Christ is the visible sign of God's love for
humankind and their response to God.
He is the central and decisive event in the whole history
of salvation.
Hence, through His words, deeds, message, life, and by
His very person, He shows who God is and we come to
experience God's selfless love for us.
The Church,
Christ's Basic
Sacrament
The Church is Jesus ‘basic sacrament.
Just as He was sent by the Father so He sent His
disciples through the power of the Holy Spirit to
continue His ministry (cf. Jn 20:21-22).
The Church, as Christ's basic sacrament, today
perpetually makes Himself present and keeps Him alive
in the hearts of humankind in the reception of the
sacraments.
Thus, the Church makes Christ present to all persons
in every age first, by being His Body, and second, by
celebrating those actions that continue Christ's
ministry (CFC 1525).
