Resources for YL Teachers

Dear teachers, here are some resources mentioned in our TEFLism Facebook Live session.

1. Reading
For teaching Young Learners these are very useful resource books for teachers:

• Storytelling with Children, Andrew Wright, Oxford Resource Books for Teachers
• Creating Stories with Children, Andrew Wright, Oxford Resource Books for Teachers
• Drama with Children, Sarah Phillips, Oxford Resource Books for Teachers
• Activities for the Primary Classroom, Carol Read, Macmillan Books for Teachers – see
the section on storytelling ideas.

Many of these books are expensive, so it might be an idea to team up with teaching friends/colleagues
and share expenses and resources. Perhaps it could be part of your reading group – see Amanda’s
previous suggestion.

2. Websites & Apps

• Find the story ‘My cat likes to hide in boxes’ here

• Find this amazing PDF here ‘Tell it Again!’ The Storytelling Handbook for Primary English
Language Teachers
• Find Carol Read telling stories and she provides the resources as well here
• Make your own big books for the classroom here
• This shows you how to make all kinds of big books here
• A little boy will teach you how to make a pop-up book here
