To what extent is the rising internet adoption by businesses a

positive change?

There was a time when you could walk past a local pizza takeaway on a Friday night and
hear the phones constantly ringing and see people hurrying around the store. Nowadays
this bustling store would be much more quiet, but in reality is likely even busier than long
ago. In more recent times, the employees would be looking at ‘kitchen display units’ to fulfil
orders placed by customers from their smartphones. This is how the internet has changed
but one industry of many, in only a decade.
Following the invention of the Internet in early 1983, it has rapidly expanded until it has
spread itself to every sector of life, whether it be communications, entertainment and also
to businesses and the economy, shown by the rise of online retailers such as Amazon, and
online aggregators such as Just Eat, UberEATS and Deliveroo. This has been to the point that
it has been reported that 70% of companies are using social technologies, not just for sales
but also for social media marketing.1
