To what extent is the rising internet adoption by businesses a

positive change?

There was a time when you would walk past the local pizza delivery store on a Friday night
and hear the phones going crazy and see bits of paper flying around everywhere. Look
around now and you’ll often see quiet bustle with the odd whirr of a receipt printer and
staff looking up at “kitchen Display Units to fulfil orders placed by customers on their
smartphones. This is how the internet has changed the way takeaways take orders, cook
them and delivery them in just a decade. Is the essay that follows we can look at whether its
positive or negative.

Following the invention of the Internet in early 1983, it has rapidly expanded until it has
spread itself to every sector of life, whether it be communications, entertainment and also
to businesses and the economy, shown by the rise of online retailers such as Amazon, and
online aggregators such as Just Eat, UberEATS and Deliveroo. This has been to the point that
it has been reported that 70% of companies are using social technologies. 1
