Unit 19- Assignment
Study Skills Portfolio Building
QUESTION 2
Provide an evaluation of the relevance and reliability of the
information sources you have used to produce the two uploaded
assignments.
ANSWER TO QUESTION 2
During my research stage, different information sources need to be used to ensure
that I could write with lots of knowledge and breathed and depth as well.
Different resources that were used during my assignments were published books,
websites, news articles, journal articles, newsletters, and posters. When reading
up and using these information sources within my work, the information I was
reading and adding to my assignment needed to be relevant to the context of my
assignment and the questions. For example, in Unit 6, History Of the NHS, the
question in my assignment was about factors that led to the creation of the NHS. I
was reading a Journal article on the NHS and factors that affect service, after
reading this, I found this article to be irrelevant to what I was looking for and
therefore did not incorporate this within my work. This article referred to and
spoke about the modern-day factors that were affecting the NHS service and
quality levels, and how patient care can be compromised because of these factors,
however, my original question linked to the history and factors of the NHS which
led to its creation. I always ensure that any information source used within my
assignments is linked to the unit and can provide clarity and depth within my work
linking to the questions directly. Checking the reliability of information sources is
incredibly important because some information sources can be outdated,
misinformed or just false. Incorporating false or incorrect information within an
assignment is not good practice and can also lead to further misinformation
depending on the reader. I check the reliability of sources by first using trusted
sites and information sources such as the BMJ and NMC, I also look at the date of
publication and always try to find the most updated version of that source. I also
use an internet source checker for websites that compare information to reliable
sources to see whether that information source is reliable. I also avoid chat room
sites such as Quora and the student room as those are opinionated.
In conclusion, I have been able to identify what information sources I can use and
whether they are relevant to my assignment and units, also been able to check
the reliability and that the information I use is the most up-to-date.
