TOPOGRAPHIC

FEATURES OF
THE GLOBE
The eyeball is not a true sphere
The radius of curvature of the cornea
(8 mm) is
smaller than that of the sclera (I2 mm)

The anteroposterior diameter of the

adult eye is approximately 23- 25
mm. The average transverse
diameter of the adult eye is 24 mm
The eye contains 3
compartments

Antherior chamber

Posterior chamber

Vitreous
cavity
The eyeball is composed of 3
concentric layers.

1.The outermost layer of the globe consist of clear cornea

and white sclera

2.The middle. layer of the globe is the uvea

3.The innermost layer of the globe is the relina

The cornea
1.occupies the center of the anterior pole of the globe

2.appears elliptical when viewed from the front

3.in the adult,it measures about 12 mm in the

horizontal meridian and about 11 mm in the vertical.
4.From behind, when the cornea is viewed at its
posterior landmark (the Schwalbe line-the
termination of Descemet's membrane), its
circumference appears circullar
5. 1mm = periphery
0,5mm = centrally
6. The limbus is gray and translucent

The
sclera
.Opaque and white
Thinnest just behind the insertion of the rectus muscles ,
increases to approximately 1 mm thick posteriorly and becomes
thin and sievelike at the lamina cribrosa
The
uvea
Consist of :
1.Choroid
2.Ciliary
body
3.Iris
4.vascular

The
retina
Photosensitive layer contains the photo reseptors
and neural elements
