NOTE:

Expired checkouts will not be listed under the 'Expired' sec on a er 3 months

4. Select the License Service that the product version uses

• SES is the service used by most CONNECT Edi on product versions and requires the
user to have a registered ID in Bentley's Iden ty Management System (IMS) (user
needs to be registered and associated with the Bentley account). Checkouts for SES
licensing model will generate a licensing le with a .BELIC le extension, which needs
to be imported in Bentley Licensing Tool on the end user machine.
• SELECTserver uses Ac va on Keys to license the product version. Checkouts for
SELECTserver licensing model will generate a licensing le with an .XML le
extension, which needs to be selected in License Management Tools during the
Product Ac va on Wizard process on the end user machine.

For more informa on about what ac va on method (license service) is used by what
product versions, see: Products Using Subscrip on En tlement Service

The required informa on is:

• For SES, you may search either with their Name (default) or Email.
• For SELECTserver, you must enter an email address

NOTE:

The user speci ed need not be the recipient of the license le. We recommend specifying the
recipient if he or she has a Bentley login since the name will appear on the Ac ve Checkouts
list. Otherwise, specify the administrator genera ng the license le.

6. Enter the name of the machine that the license will be used on

7. For SELECTserver only, enter that Ac va on Key that the checkout will be associated to.

The list of keys available will be those associated to the country chosen earlier.

8. Select the expira on date for the checkout. If your contract end date is less than a year,
the checkout will automa cally be set for your contract end date. If it is greater than a year,

product, version number, and expira on date for the license.

Import License File - Client

1. Transfer the generated license le (.belic for SES-based versions, or .xml for SELECTserver-
based versions) to the recipient's computer.

2. For SES-based products, import the license le via the Bentley Licensing Tool. For
SELECTserver-based products, import the license le via the License Management Tool.

NOTE:

CONNECTION Client will s ll prompt for sign-in but can be safely dismissed. The product will
func on if a checked out license is present.

In case a single physical machine is shared by mul ple users with di erent Windows pro le
login then we recommend checking out the license via the EM portal and impor ng the
resul ng BELIC le on every Windows pro le that will need it.

Check In a License - Admin and Client

NOTE:

Accounts without a maintenance agreement (Non-SELECT accounts) cannot check-in licenses

from the En tlement/License Management portal - Non-SELECT licenses are to be managed
locally via the License tool on each worksta on. For more details see:

• For legacy versions: Client Check In and Out Instruc ons for XM and Higher [TN]
• For SES-based versions (CONNECT): How to check out licenses via the Bentley License
Tool

The license will automa cally check in once the expira on date has been reached. But the
license can be checked in early.

Both the client (disconnected) and Admin should check in the license. When checking in a
license from a standalone machine, the Bentley Licensing Tool should o er to clear the
license. If it does not, upgrade CONNECTION Client since older versions do not have this
feature. Please see the Downloads op ons.

Current checkouts have two icons. The green bu on is to check-in license. The arrow
down is to download the license le.

Use the toggle switch “expired” to iden fy the expired checkouts.

The expired checkouts are highlighted red, and the ac ve checkouts remain white.

You may select mul ple ac ve checkouts and download all of them at once in a zip le. You
may also select mul ple checkouts to check-in at once. When one or more checkouts are
selected, op ons for check-in and download license will be ac vated.
