Question # 01
What is an atom? Describe the structure of an atom in terms of protons neutron
and electrons.
Explain with the help of an example that atom is electrically neutral.
Answer:
Atom:
The smallest particle of matter is called atom.
Structure of Atom:
An atom consist of two regions i.e. nucleus and orbit. The center of an atom is called
nucleus. Which consist of proton and neutron. Proton carry positive charge while
electrons present in orbit have negative charge.
Atom is neutral:
The number of protons and electrons of an electrons of an atom is always the same
which make atom neutral.
Question # 02
How is periodic table a way to organize elements in a systematic manner?
What are the rows and columns of periodic table and how are they helpful.
Answer:
Elements are arranged in increasing number of protons or increasing atomic number.
Rows: Horizontal rows are called periods that show the same number of shells for
elements.
Groups:
Vertical columns are called groups.
Organize elements in systematic manner:
The periodic table is important because it is organized to provide a great deal of
information about elements and have to relate one another.
