1. Write a paragraph (in 150-200 words) to explain the following process of a book
launch. Then, locate the prepositions you used in your write- ups.
We are pleased to announce the release of our new book ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ written by Thera
Jason published under our publishing firm. It would be dated on 18th September,
2023 between 4 to 8pm at the St. Maria Library. You could reach out to the author
through www.TheraJason.Chandpublications.com . If anyone is interested on buying the
original copy, an auction will be held on the same day through the
website www.chandpublications.com One could even book the tickets for the launch through
our website or Instagram handle (@chand.s.publication) the author would be present there to
autograph all your books. There will be on lucky winner at the end of the launch who will get
$500 as a giveaway. In addition to others who don’t win the giveaway will get to be part of
the SALE that going on the website. We would love to have an active participation of
everyone present there. Please note, during the launch everyone is requested to adhere to all
COVID norms.

2a. Rewrite the text. Use passive structures to make the underlined words the main
focus of the sentences.
Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 when he was a student at Harvard
University. He originally intended it to be a game in which photos of students could be
compared and rated according to the most attractive one. The project had been banned by the
college within days, but it later became the basis for the social- networking site we know
today. At first, membership was granted only to students, but all people over the age of
thirteen were allowed to join later.

b. Find two dependent and two independent clauses from the above passage.
Independent Clauses:
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook in 2004.
The college banned the project within days.
Dependent Clauses:
when he was a student at Harvard University.
but it later became the basis for the social-networking site we know today.
3. Convert the story into passive voice with the verbs in the brackets. (4 marks)

The New York police department has just announced that the Portnoy’s
Bank was robbed yesterday afternoon. Two men in masks enter the bank at 4.30 with
guns in their hands. Both the customers and the bank clerks were asked to lie down on
the floor immediately and one of the bank clerks was made to fill the robbers' bags with
money. After that the two men left the bank quickly and hurried to their car. The police
officer Jason Gregson says that more than 200,000 dollars were stolen yesterday, but
luckily nobody was injured. Jason Gregson believes that the robbers will be found sooner or
later.

4. a. Use the present simple or continuous tenses and future forms to complete this
text.

a. I do not do housework on Sundays normally. But tomorrow I will be


tidying my room, because my boyfriend Jim is coming. The bus will
arrive at 10. I think Jim will be coming on time as usual, because he likes to
be punctual. I am looking forward to him. We have a date every Sunday and
I am always looking forward to him. Tomorrow we have a special date.
We are going to see his parents. We will have a good time, I hope.

b. Read the first sentence and find a sentence with similar meaning in part A or

5. Summarize and give appropriate title.


The Tragic Incident
In the northern Austin there lived the Smothers family. The family consisted of John
Smothers, his wife, himself, their little daughter, five years of age, and her parents. One night
the little girl became very sick. So the father hurried down to the down the town to get
medicine, but he never returned. The mother married within the span of three months and
moved to San Antonio. As the time passed by, the little girl bloomed into a beautiful woman
and eventually got married and started her own family. She had a little girl of her own, named
Pansy, and who got very sick, coincidently on the same day as her father’s disappearance
anniversary. The husband pleaded to go down the town to get medicine but the later refused
due to past traumatic experience. Later the night, there was a knock at the door, and the now
grandpa, John Smother, appeared carrying a bottle of medicine which immediately relived
Pansy. Lastly, he said apologized for being late.
