Make sure the stitches at the base of the chain are tight to
avoid gaps in the finished project.

Using yellow yarn.
rnd 1 4 sc in mr (4)
rnd 2 (1 sc, 1 inc) x 2 (6)

COMB (MAKE 1)
Using red yarn. The comb is created by attaching three parts together. Fasten
off for the first two parts after round 6 but do not cut the yarn on the third part
(pic 10). Cut a piece of red yarn and set aside to use for sewing before
beginning.

WATTLE (MAKE 2)
Using red yarn, ch 7. Starting in the 3rd chain from the hook.

Cut the yarn and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
WINGS (MAKE 2)
Using bronze yarn.

Cut the yarn and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing (pic 18).
FEET (MAKE 2)
Using yellow yarn. The feet are created by attaching three toes together. Fasten
off for the first two toes after round 5 but do not cut the yarn on the third toe
(pic 19).

Starting from the last stitch of round 5 of the third toe (toe A).
rnd 6 3 sc on toe A, 3 sc on the toe B, 6 sc on toe C, 3 sc into the
remaining 3 stitches of toe B, 3 sc into the remaining 3 stitches of

You should now have one piece, with all three toes attached (pic 22). Continue
to crochet the feet.

Place the wings on either side of the body below the hackle feathers and sew in
place along round 20 of the body using the long yarn tails.
