Introduction to Analysis

AlphaOne
The second semester is going to be very interesting from the practical point of view
because it’s very much about the practicalities of how we are going to go about this.
You can see if, in looking at the illustration that is there, that the subject that I’m
going to begin with is called AlphaOne.

It’s one of the things to grasp right from the beginning and I think all of you are
already familiar with that is that your entry point into any kind of business, at least
in the beginning before there is a reputation or word of mouth or all of those things,
is going to be your individual contact with someone. That individual contact, there
are two ways in which that works now. So many people that, for example as
analysts, you do readings for are obviously people that operate in the workplace.
Many of them entrepreneurs, many of them have small businesses. So obviously,
that’s a natural entry point.

But even if you’re dealing with somebody who knows absolutely nothing about
Human Design the entry point is the same. The person that you were going to
influence no matter who it is, I go back to my experience with Peter Lawrence.
Peter’s métier, the environment that he was used to working with, was the corporate
board working with personnel directors, managing directors, that kind of thing.

One of the most interesting things about our early experiments with marketing the
knowledge was that the AlphaOne, which was an analysis of an individual, was
something that was very popular and from the business point of view they were
willing to spend a great deal of money for that individual analysis. It is one of the
things to grasp about what BG5 represents for each of you as an income resource
that one of the things that is going to be most productive will be AlphaOne readings.
Somewhere in the neighborhood of every four or five AlphaOnes that you do you
may end up with a very productive BG5 client.

It’s something to understand. We were marketing the AlphaOne somewhere around


the $5,000 range. It’s basically a souped up of highly specialized Human Design
reading. And yet, it is not a Human Design reading because it is not about
awakening the passenger. It is about being able to give somebody what is basically
a business profile rather than a life purpose profile.

What I want to begin with this semester is looking at AlphaOne and what AlphaOne
is really all about. It is clear, and all of you have already speculated on that, that
when you’re looking at an individual body graph and you’re looking at somebody’s
design, there are enormous number of elements that are particularly significant in
one’s Human Design that don’t carry any weight in terms of the way in which we
look at Penta or the engineering of Penta.

For example, if you take a look at this chart on the right here is the split-off 41/30.
And obviously, when you’re dealing with the Penta configuration the Penta has no
Root; the Penta has no emotional system. And yet, if you’re doing a reading for this
being and you want to connect with the part of them that will acknowledge your
authority, and that is something that is very important, that you do have the ability
to offer what you say you can offer, that it’s going to be essential that this is going
to be an ingredient in what you’re going to be talking about to this being.

Looking at the Individual and their Business Profile


One of the things to see is that the AlphaOne is a very tricky mix between taking into
consideration the individual, the being itself and the way in which the being is
designed, and at the same time talking about the business profile of that being in
terms of what is their possibilities within the Penta. More than what their
possibilities are within the Penta, which is one side of the track that you use to
reaffirm for them where they need to focus their talent, their time, their energy
because those are aspects that will work for them, and at the same time for them to
understand those areas within the business context and within the business language
that they lack capacity; and in recognizing that lack of capacity, being able to
understand the kind of allies that one will need in their business process if they’re
going to be involved in a small business.

The other thing is that AlphaOne can be marketed to anybody who is in a Penta work
environment. You can do an AlphaOne reading for somebody who is in a particular
committee of three, four or five people. You can do AlphaOne reading for somebody
who is a department of three, four, or five people. But again, it is about letting them
understand what is productive for them for focus and what is unproductive for them,
where they need to let go of insecurity and egoism in terms of what they cannot do.

I think one of the most impressive things that you can discover in any kind of
interaction or listening to or reading business leaders is that these are beings that
truly understand what they cannot do. That’s what makes them successful, because
when you truly recognize what you cannot do you are able to properly delegate
authority, delegate responsibility and you’re able to let go of wasting energy,
dumping energy down a lost hole.

The Entry Point: Business Profile


So, the AlphaOne reading is something that is really very, very important and a cut
above what is a normal reading. For those of you that are trained in BG5 your entry
point now is not about the Human Design reading, even if you happen to meet
somebody through the Human Design reading, but it’s really about doing the
business profile, doing the AlphaOne, what just about everybody wants to know in a
sense is where can they do well in this life, where are their basic material
predispositions and at the same time where they are vulnerable to lose their
direction on the material plane.

Two Kinds of AlphaOne Readings: BG5 and OC16


The AlphaOne reading is something that could be adapted, for example, to people in
universities who are interested in their career potentials, being able to be given
proper direction. And by the way, there are two kinds of AlphaOne readings. That
is, the BG5 AlphaOne which is relative to the small grouping and the OC16 AlphaOne
which is much more complex because it has to do with one’s potential within much
larger configurations. And there are many, many more divisions in all of that.

This is the basic reading that anyone who is entering onto the material plane in
essence actually needs. It sets a framework, if you will, for the way in which one
can be successful in a business sense. Not everyone that will have an AlphaOne
reading be deeply impressed. They’ll love it, it’s really good information. It is as
good in the business sense as Human Design is in the Personality sense. And yet, at
the same time that is no guarantee they will do that for their business. This is
something that we have to deal with in the beginnings of this process, that there can
be a great deal of resistance. There can be concern that to introduce this knowledge
to the others may cause problems. There are all of these things that are there.
Whether they’re rational or not, I want you to be prepared for what you’re going to
meet.

We had great success with AlphaOnes. They can be enormously profitable but you
also have to see this is the gateway in. That gateway is always that being. Now
when you’re doing a Human Design reading and you’re dealing with a business man
and they say, “Well, this is very interesting, how would this apply,” you can
immediately point them at having a business profile, having an AlphaOne. In that
way you’ll be able to demonstrate to them not simply that you can do some kind of
astrology magic, whatever, and read their Personality, but that it goes far beyond
that. You can speak their language and you can demonstrate to them what their
limitation.

The Business Shadow


There is an interesting term that Peter coined for the openness in an AlphaOne
reading. He called it the business shadow. In many ways it’s a very good phrase.
That is, so many beings lose the potential of their BG5 qualities simply by being
drawn into the shadow and drawn into what they don’t have.

On a personal level, on an individual level, it’s something that is very much a part of
them. If you look at this example, obviously we have somebody who is very strong
through the center. If you look at that 15th gate here and you see that there is no 5,
one of the things to recognize this being on their own has a deep genetic attraction
to that 5. And of course, within the context of their AlphaOne or their business
potential this shadow is there. It pulls them into that.

So, rather than them being focused on their qualities which are obvious in their
strong definition, they are simply getting lost in whatever the shadow happens to be.
And of course, it ends up being the kind of thing where if only I could be good at
that, I would have a great career when in fact it’s not true. It’s simply not true.

They’re going to have, like everyone, the potential of a great career when they
operate correctly as themselves and allow others to fill in those gaps. Then you
begin to see that the business profile opens the client up to what we might call gap
consciousness, to be aware that these gaps that are there, this is their hiring criteria,
it’s their partnership criteria, it’s their colleague criteria. In other words, it’s really
showing them what kind of allies they need.

In many ways it’s almost spiritual, in a sense. Not that I want to bring spirituality
into any of this, but I just think it’s cute. You begin to understand that the
fulfillment of your process, whatever your process happens to be that genetically you
are limited. There is just nothing you can do about that except to be in a situation
where you have the right resources.

Now, think about the AlphaOne you do a reading to and you’re basically talking
about their gaps and their thing is, “Well, what do I do?” The answer is, “You need
people that are working with you that are going to fill those in.” “Well, what if they
don’t have that?” “Well, you have a problem.” “Well, how do you fix that problem?”
“You get the right people who have that gap.”

Tweaking the Person’s Selfishness


It tweaks their selfishness. I think that’s the best way of putting it. When you get to
see that you can be AlphaOne—isn’t that a great name, AlphaOne, I think it’s
wonderful. It’s an oxymoron, but what the hell. The only way that you can be top
dog is if you’re very conscious of whom your allies are and that you have to have the
right allies. If you’re not controlling that, then it’s a matter of serendipity and
chances are that you’re never going to be top dog because you’re never going to
have the allies that you need because luck isn’t going to deliver that to you.

That is very, very powerful for anyone’s consciousness to grasp. And in the not-self
consciousness of the clients that you’re going to have this is the thing then. Their
minds are immediately into, “Aha, how can I be in a situation where I can truly be
the AlphaOne.” This is something that is very powerful.

The Not-Self is always a Failure


So this AlphaOne reading is more than just simply a gateway in the sense that it
says, “Look, we really know how to analyze a person, we know how to analyze a
person’s potential.” Aside from the obvious it sets up a psychological splinter in the
mind of that person who is receiving the reading. Because the not-self is always a
failure, let’s be clear, even when they’re a success. There is a part of them that
doesn’t know why and is always afraid that it’s going to disappear. And that every
single being, the not-self, assume that whatever the external limitations have been
on their development, their material rise, their climb up the ladder, whatever it will
be, that in the end there’s a part of them that sees that it’s something that they
have lacked.

All of a sudden there’s somebody that’s saying to them, “You do not lack anything.
You’re perfect for what you are here to do. But you’re not perfect to do what you’re
not here to do.” And that all of the problems of the past, all of the limitations of the
past are now transferred, they’re transferred to working with those people, working
with them, and so forth and so on. This is the place that you want the not-self being
to be. This is your opportunity.

Remember, that alpha, and let’s be clear about what this AlphaOne being is, this is
somebody that is involved in a small business. This is somebody who may be a
partner in a small business, this may be somebody who owns a small business, it’s
may be somebody who wants to start a small business, whatever the case may be
you have to see it’s about them. It’s why they’re interested in the AlphaOne. It’s
about them. And not only is it about them, it isn’t going to tell them how they can
be a better person, because they don’t give a shit in most cases, it tells them about
how they can be more successful, make more money, have a bigger house, all the
things that go with the whatever fantasies they have on the material plane.

This is a very powerful pitch. When you can hone it down to saying, because you
might meet a few people that have everything between the Throat and the Sacral;
it’s going to be rare. But in most cases you’re going to meet beings who are going
to have gaps in that, some of them huge gaps in that. This transforms their entire

thinking. They get to see that they’re really good at something and they’ve only not
been great at it because they’ve had to waste all their energy and time dealing with
gaps that other people didn’t fill in. It’s great transference.

Then you see what is the logical step that you take once you realize that, the logical
step you take at least in your imagination to begin with is, “Well, if I control this and
I get the gaps filled the way I want with the people that I want that I’m going to be a
greater success and I’m going to finally be able to live out my true potential.” The
magic is that it may be a psychological splinter, but it’s all the truth. That is, the
mechanical truth; the truth as the maya delivers it. That resonates so deeply.

AlphaOne: A Balancing Job


So, AlphaOne is a balancing job, and it is a balancing job between being able to
provide a holistic view that includes both of the essentials of their design—type,
strategy, authority, profile—the surface of it, after all. You don’t have to go much
deeper to have impact. The basic surface of the not-self, and then with that as the
framework, so you’ve got somebody resonating to what is the clarity that that brings
to their own understanding of themselves, that’s the moment you take them into the
way in which they operate in business. And this is an enormous eye opener for
them.

Looking at the Chart
So, let’s take a look and we being this process—if you look over here in the Penta
map you can see that I have colored in Personalities, so here is the Personality 15
and I’ve colored in the Personality 15. In looking at this configuration it’s simply
colored in according to what’s there. So you’ve got unconscious definition in the 8/1
and in the 2/14. And of course, you can see those placed in there as if this was the
base of the PentaGraph. You can also see that there are these black colored lines
going down, it’s just an indication that there is definition in these cases. And
obviously we have four gaps that are above, and we have one gap that is below.

Before I get into that, let’s think about a couple of things here. What we’re looking
at is that to begin with we’re looking at a very powerful emotional Manifesting
Generator. The emotional Manifesting Generator, as we well know, in most cases is
a Manifestor gone berserk. They suffer from Manifestor disease. This is somebody
that can be working to the bone and because it’s unconscious the way it delivers to
the Throat have very little understanding of why they are on the treadmill to begin
with.

So, you’ve got somebody who is a Manifesting Generator so we know the whole
nature of response. Now, one of the things that’s very, very important is to be clear
that it is a great advantage to anyone to understand what is the best way for them
to make decisions, obviously. One of the things for anyone who is involved in any
kind of executive position who is a Generator it is very, very important for them that
they have a question-and-answer relationship with their staff, or with those that they
work with. And again, I will talk about this in terms of how you lay out basic rules,
or basic themes for the various types in any position of authority so that they can
understand what’s the best way to communicate with others, what’s the best way for
them to come to decisions.

The other thing is that here you’re dealing with an emotional being, and you’re
dealing with an emotional being that is driven by desire. An emotional Manifesting

Generator rarely has anything remotely like patience. This is a very powerful force.
Obviously, this is not somebody based on the authority of the emotional system that
in terms of their business decisions and the way in which they’re going to make
business decisions that business decisions can never be spontaneous. Obviously,
you’re going to have somebody who is addicted to making spontaneous statements,
somebody who holds onto things—concepts, business, ideas, whatever the case may
be that aren’t necessarily good for it—this is a person that’s out to prove themselves,
this is somebody who always tries to be certain. You have basic things that are
there that need to be introduced in that sense.

You also have the basic themes of the profile. But I don’t want to go through Human
Design analysis training in this. I really want to talk about the straightforward
business aspect in how you approach this business aspect with them, or the business
profile.

Balance Between the Potential and the Shadow


The first thing is that there needs to be a balance between what their gift is, if you
will, or their potential and where the shadow is. One of the most important things in
terms of just the psychology of a reading is to begin with those attributes that are
detrimental to them. In other words, begin with bad cop and go to good cop. Start
with where the problems are. This is something that is very, very powerful. The fact
that it’s very powerful also gives you the opportunity when you’re done with telling
what their limitation is that you have the opportunity then to be able to give them
the positive as a balance, for them to really see, “This is what you’re here for,
because what’s you’re here for is so powerful.” This is obvious in this being’s design.

But the most important thing in terms of being able to have the impact that you
want remember that our goal in this is to demonstrate that the shadow is a problem
only if one feels like it’s their problem. In other words, if there’s a gap in your
AlphaOne it doesn’t mean you’ve got a problem, it means you need the right allies.
This is something that has to be hammered in over and over again because what
we’re trying to do is bring the consciousness of Penta to people. You cannot do it
alone. The vast majority of the way in which the material plane operates is that it
operates though Pentas.

Begin with Pointing out Weak Areas


So, what we want to begin with is pointing out those areas of weakness, because
they’re going to recognize it. Remember, they’re going to have spent their entire
adult life, anyway, trying to fill in those gaps in one way or another. And those gaps
have become within their personal design deep conditioning elements in their life,
obviously. Not so much in this case, because of course we’re dealing with
conditioning that’s going to take place in areas that are already defined. And it really
is secondary conditioning.

Nonetheless, it is still there and they’re always going to feel like there is something
missing in them. And of course, you know right away that if you’re dealing with 65
percent of humanity that has an open ego, entering into the shadow is so powerful.
They do feel inadequate. They’re deeply sensitive to the fact that there are many
things that they cannot do or cannot do well or haven’t done well that their material
plane hasn’t worked out the way they have always wanted it or dreamed or thought
of. Here’s a person that has enormous fantasy. There’s all this fantasy that’s there
about what it could be and what it might be. But there is the fates standing there
and it gets in the way.

For all this being’s power in the Penta—and think about it because I know this is
something that is, at least among people who have any sense of BG5, this concept of
a strong Penta person, or a weak Penta person. For example, I don’t have any
definition in the Penta. In that context that would be weak. This one person here
could be seen as strong, obviously. You’ve got the fundamental core of the Penta
defined—the 2/14. You’d really have great strength there.

And yet, to recognize something that other than what is possible for a being like this
and operating alone and they just might because they’re hermits after all, the fact is
that the moment they enter into working relationships with the other, their very
strength can end up being an enormous burden. Think about what it means if you’re
the 2/14 and you’re the engine of resources and there are all those gaps that don’t
get filled in and you’re pumping your resources down the toilet. And if you were
doing it by yourself, a hermit in your cave with your computer and your internet
connection then you would not have to deal with that dilemma.

It’s why, by the way, that an AlphaOne reading is a great tool to have as a BG5
analyst because often what you’re going to be able to reveal is that you don’t belong
in a Penta, the advice that you give them about the way in which they operate in
their business life. Again, I want us not simply to want to churn or stream or
somehow propagandize people into the Penta analysis, we will get our share. But for
us to be honest brokers, to be very clear that when you see the limitations for
somebody, somebody like this without those five gates, all that great strength that
they have will become a deep emotional frustration. And they’ll just be very
frustrated, because it isn’t going to work out properly and how quickly they’re going
to resonate when you begin to point it out to them.

The 31/7
So, let’s move over here and I have come over here to the 31/7. Here we’re looking
at planning and we’re looking at Penta logic, and we’re looking at being able to
organize and administrate that, to fix the patterns of the business. Here is
somebody that is not capable of doing those things. It’s really the thing to
understand in that sense. So, they end up getting caught up in the planning. They
want to do the planning. And they think that they should be doing the planning.

You can see that on an individual basis there is conflict here because you have this
very strong fantasy theme that is rooted in the emotional definition. There are a lot
of dreams of what progress can really mean in that sense. This as an individual
element—remember you meet them as an individual, you’re doing their individual
analysis and potential—this is something that gets in the way. “Emotionally you
would like to be the one who decides where everything goes, but in fact, what you’re
really good at is just showing it off. But you’re not good at identifying where it
should go. Not only that, you’re not good at identifying who in the organization
should take on the roles that are necessary to fulfill the very potential that you bring.
And there you are spending all of your time trying to administer, when in fact, that’s
not what you’re here for.”

So, when you take an element like this, there is this kind of point, counter-point, I
don’t know how else to express that. It’s what I love to do in readings where you
point out something that is a relative negative. “You do not have the ability to plan
for the future.” Now, that’s a relative negative and the person thinks, “Oh, jeez,

that’s true I’ve never been able to do that very well.” And at the same time you
bring them back to the understanding that that’s not what they’re here to be good
at. But somebody else is going to have to be good at that if their small business, or
if their involvement in small business is going to work. Or if they’re going to enter
into relationships with others to develop a business and organization, a department,
whatever the case may be. Those elements are going to have to be filled in by
others, not by them.

Gaps are not Places of Learning


I remember in the very early years of teaching Design and talking about the open
emotional system. In doing readings one of my lines to people was that it’s not your
emotions, it’s not yours. It’s something really to understand in the sense of gaps
and understanding gaps. This is not something that you’re here to learn.
Remember that a Penta is only truly correct when there are no gaps. So, it’s not
about a learning process. It’s not like being an individual human being where
through that open 31/7 they can find wisdom, ultimately, if they operated correctly.

Or they could learn a great deal about the way in which leadership operates. But
that still doesn’t mean they would be any good at planning or administrating. It
wouldn’t, they would simply be very good witnesses of it. And very good at
recognizing the different ways in which that can operate. But it’s not their thing.

The moment that you’re doing the business analysis you’re talking about that 31/7 in
a way that in some ways is totally opposite the way you would if it was somebody’s
design. In somebody’s design you would say, “Beware of the 31/7, it’s a
conditioning element in your life.” Very simple; it’s what we would do, right? You
would say, “Well, you know you don’t have this, but you’re going to be attracted to
it. Beware of it.”

What we say in business analysis is, “Go get it. Be conditioned here.” Think about
that. It’s actually something interesting to think about. “Be conditioned here, you
need this conditioning.” On a personal level that’s not so great. But on a Penta level
it’s perfect because then it’s not about conditioning at all. It’s simply the Penta
taking in the aspects it needs to fulfill its potential.

It’s an interesting thing to understand about the relationship between Human Design
and its wariness of conditioning and what is necessary to function well in the world
out there in the Penta that this is a world that is based on interconnective
relationships; it is based on mutual conditioning systems. That’s what we have.

So, what this person needs to recognize is that in order for them to be able to
transform the qualities that they have into success is that they’re going to need to
abandon their concern about “I should be doing the planning.” If you’ve got
somebody with an undefined ego and they’re emotional and they’ve got emotional
fantasy and you say to them, “You should not be doing the planning.” There’s this,
“Oh, my God, what do you mean I shouldn’t be doing the planning.” It’s, “Well, how
well has that ever worked for you?” It hasn’t and they’ll be the first to admit it. It
just hasn’t.

Resistance from Defined Egos
This is the thing that is so powerful. And the work that we do is that anything that
you are going to point to and you have to know this deep inside, whatever you point
to, this is the way it works. They will resonate to it, they will get it. You’ll get more
resistance from a defined ego, a defined ego with this emotional system will say,
“Well, what do you mean? I have all these fantastic plans about where I think things
can go.” Then you say to them, “Yeah, but your plans are not logical. They’re just
not.” And they’re not; not logical at all. “They’re abstract and they’re fishy and they
have absolutely nothing to do with your potential for business success. It may have
something to do with your sexual life.” And then their eyes go up, and whatever the
case may be.

Our Calling Card: The Shadow


This is the deepest entry point that we have. This is our calling card. The moment
that you go to their shadow—I tell you, when you go through the basic design
elements they will nod their head because in many ways that’s what they expect.
They honestly don’t expect anything else. They simply expect, “If they’re going to
be able to do anything like they say they can do they’re going to tell me something
that I recognize is true about myself.” It’s very simple in most human beings.

And obviously, they will hear what they have to hear. But when you take them to
the business, oh, the ears, you can just tell, they all look like Doberman Pinchers,
their ears pointed and standing up because this really matters. And the moment
that you can point out the obvious, “Here is what you think has been your problem,
here is where you have wasted your energy. All that planning, all that attempt that
you’ve had to organize it and administer it. All that stuff that you try to do; it’s been
just a mess. Why do you think you’re having this reading with me? It’s just been a
mess. Well, it’s not your fault. It’s never been your fault because it’s not your thing
to do. And you have to see that unless you’re working with the right people this
potential cannot be realized. Somebody else has to carry this configuration.
Somebody else has to bring this in the mix.”

The client is then thinking of all the people that they’ve worked with that they
couldn’t stand. All the people that they work with that they were sure were the
reasons why they didn’t succeed. It’s human nature; it’s the way that it works. And
it takes all the onus off them; and it’s true, by the way. But they’ve never gotten it
that way. Oh, it’s wonderful for them. “I know what I’m good at, and if things don’t
work, it’s not my fault. I’m just with the wrong people; I’m in the wrong business.
I’m in the wrong company.”

And it changes their whole perspective about what it means to work with somebody.
After all, through the AlphaOne you open up the eyes—after all, there’s no point
doing an AlphaOne unless you’re dealing with some kind of decision maker. And this
opens up their eyes to the fact that, “Oh, I guess they can show me then that by
looking at other people’s business profile who has what.” They get it. It is like,
“Aha, this would be incredible. How do we do this? I want to find out what Charlie
or Jane or Joe or Janet or whatever the case is that’s working with me, I want to
know what they bring to the mix.” You open up the potential to get Penta business.

The only risk you run is that they want to be secretive. “By the way Jane, exactly
what time were you born?” “What do you mean?” “Oh, I’m just curious. I’m
collecting statistics.” This is where we have to recommend directness to our clients.
In other words, it’s going to be exceedingly difficult and in many ways an untenable

position for us to deal with a decision maker who wants to sort of secretly, as a
power trip, or as a spying trip, get to see what the others have in order to confirm
whether he likes this person or that one, or this one should be fired or the other.
There are a lot of scenarios.

The Disease of Money


You’re dealing with much stickier Personality traits when you deal with money.
Human beings are totally fucked up when it comes to money, so deeply fucked up. I
have watched this all of my life and it has astonished me. And it has astonished me
because I have never lost sight of the fact that this planet and what it is to be
human is generally something that disadvantaged. There is no equal or fair or
qualitative distribution of material in this life. That the vast majority of humanity
suffers materially. I happen to have been very lucky to grow up in an advantaged
relatively affluent household. And I watched not simply what money did in my
family and to my siblings, but what money did to my contemporaries growing up in a
materially identified society. I grew up in Montreal in Canada and it’s very much
similar in so many ways to the whole North American consciousness about capitalism
and materialism and the way in which all that works. And I watch from the
perspective of being in a public high school that crossed the boundary between a
very wealthy neighborhood and a very poor neighborhood. This mix of those that
had and those that didn’t; those that had the latest clothes, and those that had
hand-me-down clothes, and all the things that go with material differences.

There is a deep sickness connected with money. I don’t mean to get into any kind of
spiritual discussion, but I think that any of us that are going to represent this
knowledge can never be devoid of an appreciation of what Human Design teaches
us. I went through a process of deconstructing in which I gave up the material way
completely. I didn’t touch money for a very, very long time. I didn’t buy anything.

It was very interesting and what was interesting for me was number one, I did not
lose my dignity, and number two I freed myself of conditioned greed, the greed to
want things. Not a lack of appreciation of having, I have good taste, I’m an
aesthetic being. It is beautiful to have. It is dangerous and diseased carrying to
want. I did not enter into Human Design to build a business. It is simply what
happened in order to get the knowledge out. I didn’t enter into the business
concerned about making a profit because frankly it was clear to me if it didn’t make
a profit it was probably all bullshit and I was mad as a hatter and I should it give the
whole thing up.

I began to deal with my business associates and my employees through Human


Design and Human Design eyes and through No Choice. I understand the disease of
money. It is probably the greatest joke that I live that the greatest success
materially that I’ve ever had or could ever imagine having has come to me in a time
in my life where I frankly don’t care. As I said, I appreciate it; I’m grateful. But it’s
not the point.

Art for Art Sake


The thing about money and the thing about material success has so much to do with
the key to any creative process. I love this expression: Art for art sake. It’s the joy
of doing what you do that matters. I love what I do. I do; I love it deeply. It’s been
a great gift and it’s deeply inspiring and I love it. It wouldn’t matter whether if was
teaching one person or 50 because I’ve been there and done that, I just love what I

do. And I’m rewarded for that, for no reason. It just seems that’s something that
happens.

One of things that we can bring to somebody through their business analysis is that
we can bring them to the place where they can love what they’re capable of, that
they can love what they do because they get to do it where they are at their best.
And at the moment that we can direct—we’re still dealing with the not-self—them
away from being gap-focused and gap-lost, we can begin to bring some joy into their
process. It’s very difficult for most human beings who tread any kind of awareness
path to come to grips with the material plane. It is the great dilemma on the planet.
And it is what literally we are going to make our living off of is this material dilemma,
the deep, deep fear that resides in all beings. We are, after all, the form principal
and form must be maintained. These bioforms must be maintained; they must be
sheltered and fed and so forth and so on. There is enormous pressure on human
beings to maintain material integrity. This is our deep entry point because where
we’re going to is much more important to them than their sex life, their spiritual life;
it really is.

If you were to take this person and were able to meet them on three different
occasions and after each occasion they would have memory lost, so they wouldn’t
remember. On the first occasion you go in and say, “Would you like to find out
about yourself?” And they’ll say, “No.” On the second occasion you go in and say,
“Would you like to find out more about your sex life?” And they’ll sort of think about
it, but, “No.” And then you go up to them the third time and you say, “Would you
like to find out how to be more successful financially?” “Yes, oh yes.” 99,999 times
out of a 100,000 they’re going to say, “Yes, tell me how I can make more money,
tell me how I can be more successful.”

Two-Pronged Focus
So, we have a two-pronged focus in that. Our two-pronged focus in that is, “This is
how you can be more successful, and you can be more successful by being your
business self, what you are really capable of, and recognizing that you need allies
who bring these things that you’re not good at, that you’ll never be good at, that you
shouldn’t be good at, so don’t worry about it. But make sure that you have the right
allies with you.”

Of course, that immediately, and again, this is the thing that rams it home, the first
thing that they have to think about in that moment is, “I wonder what this one and
that one and the other one, I wonder what their designs are. I wonder what they
bring to this business. I wonder why this business is doing poorly when I think it
should be doing great. I wonder why with my 2/14 that I’m dumping all this money
down the toilet and I’m not making a profit. I’m just constantly losing money. And
now I know it’s not my problem. And yet, it is my problem. Because if it’s my
business or I’m responsible then how am I going to fix this. Here is a way I can see
that it can be fixed.”

This opens up the potential to do Penta work. The deeper you impact the being, and
again the advantage that we have with any small organization and this is something
that I stress is that the conversation that we never get to hear, which is the most
important conversation for us, is the conversation between the client who has had an
AlphaOne talking to their partner or their employees and talking about them about
what took place and asking them if they would like to participate or telling them that
they would like them to participate or suggesting. That conversation is a

conversation we don’t have any part of. And that conversation is absolutely
essential.

All we can do is establish as deeply as possible the recognition in the being. And
again, this is the thing that’s so important. It’s like when you do Living Design
where you take somebody through their not-self in order to reaffirm the importance
of living their true self. And this is very much the same thing just with a different
perspective. You show where their shadow has been and you show them how to
illuminate that shadow. You illuminate that shadow by bringing in these forces. And
you tell them there is no other way.

One Option: Work Alone or in a Partnership


There is one option, there’s always the same option. The option for this person is
that they can operate alone or they can operate in a partnership with one other
person. And this is one of the things as a BG5 analysis doing this person’s
AlphaOne; this would be one of my recommendations. It would be something that I
would make this person very much aware of, that the moment they enter into
groupings of three to five people that is the moment they are dependent on what
those beings are bringing.

If it is not necessary for them to have that kind of numbers of beings involved, in
other words, if it’s the kind of thing they can do alone or do with one other person,
then they’re not going to deal with that situation and it would simply be a matter of
—and again, it doesn’t eliminate our work—it would be a matter of finding the right
kind of partnership that is beneficial. And again, that takes us into going to
traditional Human Design partnership analysis to see what the quantum will be in
that relationship and what the potentials are, in that sense, as a partnership, which
is very different.

As a matter of fact, partnerships have very little to do with businesses, because


partnerships can never become a real big business. They can’t. A business can only
be built from a Penta. There is no other way; this is the fundamental backbone of all
material success. There are ways in the modern age in which you can sort of do it,
somewhat like I do it, in that I basically operate in a partnership with my daughter
because we work very closely in operating the business of Jovian. But everybody
else is mostly networked. So there is never a Penta aura making a decision in
Jovian. It’s just never there.

And yet, it’s been possible to network the expansion of the business. But it remains
very much a partnership and never really enters into the Penta dynamic. In order
for us to be more than just two computers in space, to create a large edifice that
would change everything. And it’s not something that’s going to take place in my
lifetime because I cannot function in that kind of environment.

So, you have to see that in doing the analysis you can’t always point the client where
you would like, point them towards, “This is what we can do for you in developing a
Penta.” You do have to give them what is best for them, that’s our job, to provide
them with an insight that they may be better off on their own than with a partner.
However, you may meet this person and they happen to be in a department of some
company and they would like to go out on their own and do something and they’re
thinking of starting a small business. This is a perfect person to find out whether or
not they are equipped for such a thing.

You can also have somebody who is already in a Penta with this kind of configuration
in which you can say to them, “Look, you can take a step backwards, but if you take
a step backwards you’re really going to limit the growth and development of your
business. You’re going to have to change the way you operate entirely. Or you can
engineer the Penta that you’re in to make sure that you have the fill in of the gaps
that’s going to make your business more successful.”

The 33/13
Here we’re looking at the 33/13. This would be an interesting situation. For
example, what that means—we’ve had that as a transit for about five or six months
and it can really get in the way of somebody seeing a problem. But anyway, I’ll save
that for later when we look at transit impacts on individuals.

But here I just want to keep the focus on the gaps. When we’re looking at the whole
recording keeping assessment this is somebody who is just awful at that. It’s
something you immediately point it out to them that this is something that just can’t
do. They are not the ones that are able to really keep an eye on what everything is
doing. They’re a power source. They’re here to fulfill their potential as this very
deep power source.

The moment that they enter into the shadow, and they’re always entering into that
shadow, they’re being drawn, it is their individual genetic imperative, they’re being
drawn to the conditioning. So they end up thinking that this is the thing that’s so
important that they have to have. They try to do the things. This is the real
dilemma—they try to do those things that they’re not designed to do. And most of
their energy simply goes down that hole.

Obviously, this is the kind of being that needs to have assessment coming from the
outside, needs somebody who is looking after dotting the eyes and crossing the “t’s.”
The moment that this person can understand that it’s not their job is the moment
that they can begin to see that things are going to be so much easier for them when
they don’t have to do these things that they have felt compelled to do. Again, it
changes their perspective. To recognize that it’s others that have to fulfill these
potentials. They just do.

The moment that you explain to somebody for example that they’re not really the
ones that can really tell whether or not what they’re doing is a success. They’re not;
they’re not the bottom line people. This is something that they can bring into any
aspect of their life for them to really begin to see that the moment that they’re doing
the judgment on what they are actually producing and so forth and so on all of that
becomes distorted because they’re simply not capable of doing it properly. Of
course, what happens is that they end up wasting resources; they end up just simply
having all of those resources just dribble away.

The 5
The other one is the 5. The 5 is very interesting because it cuts off the 15 from
flowing into the 14 and the 2. So that means that though there is this reliability
that’s built in, and of course we know that this is really about where the aura is
pulled in. When somebody has the 15 th gate it says something very important,
they’re very good at pulling people into the aura, into the business aura, into the
Penta aura. They’re very good at pulling them in. It is the magnetism that is there.

However, being able to bring them together and bring them together into a
framework of interaction that’s going to work they don’t have, they’re not good at it.
They’re not good at setting up the framework for interaction within the business
which means that the relationships between the various beings that are involved in
whatever this person is doing that does relationships in terms of what they’re
supposed to be doing in the business is not clear.

You can see the dilemma on the logical side for this being. This is very strong in that
sense. The joke of somebody like this is that you look at their design and you say,
“Wow, yeah, this is somebody that really has a strong Penta.” Right; well, does a
strong Penta necessarily mean that they’re going to be a success? No. As a matter
of fact, this can be a real loose cannon, the kind of person—you see them often—
they have tremendous energy, they put that energy into stuff and it goes nowhere
and they quit, they give up and they put that same energy somewhere else and it
still doesn’t work. They can keep on doing it because they’ve the resource motor for
it, but they simply get more and more frustrated with that process.

No Control Mechanism
There is no control on them. This is the dilemma of not having a 31/7 and not
having a 33/13, there is no control mechanism. There is no real plan, there is no
real oversight, this is just power and nothing more. This is the kind of person that
goes out the door and says, “We’ve got this, this and this, and everybody is
impressed. But they only have maybe this, and the this and the this and the other
this, well, that’s on order, it hasn’t really come. They have the ability to go out there
and put themselves out, the classic 8/1 where they’re there to make the
presentation, they’re there to display the core model of the business. But if there is
no control, then the whole thing becomes a disaster.

As a matter of fact, these are the very people who are capable of letting out their
business secret that’s the very basis of their survival. They’ll say the wrong things.
They’ll talk too much about things that they shouldn’t talk about; there’s no control
mechanism on them.

The most important thing is not to get caught up on thinking that you see a lot
definition automatically, you see their strength. The thing that you’re looking for is
gaps, as always. The gaps are always going to be your key. They’re going to be
your key in being able to do an AlphaOne, they’re your key in putting together the
engineering of a Penta, it is all about gap technology. That sounds nice, I like that.

Three Basic Problems


And of course, in this particular case with this being you’ve got three very basic
problems. You don’t have the ability to plan and administer. You do not have the
ability to see, in fact with any kind of perspective whether or not the plan is actually
working. And you don’t have the ability to set up ways in which those you work with
interact with each other properly.

And the moment you tell this being that. You’re telling them what they’ve always
known. And not so much in the sense that they’ve known it as you can never do this
because it’s not you. It’s that you have so much trouble with this because it’s not
you. This is our entry point. This is the moment that they say, “What can we can
we do about that, how can we fix that?” That’s the thing that’s so fascinating
because that’s the moment you open up the whole mechanics of what this is all
about.

Reaffirm the Positives
Once you have established where the dilemmas are in terms of the gaps. Once
you’ve laid that out, that’s when it’s time to go back to the positives that are there
and to reaffirm the positives.

Let’s talk about human nature for a moment. I discovered that very early in doing
readings. I would tell somebody that they were terrific and they would nearly fall
asleep. I would tell them they were jerks and fools and they’d be nodding their head
and totally attentive. There is something about human beings that, it’s like the news
where the news is built on bad news, good news doesn’t sell. It’s just not
interesting. It’s why, for example, in a business profiling you begin with what they’ll
pay attention to because they’re immediately going to pay attention to those things
that are a problem for them and that they don’t have them, they acknowledge.

And of course, our advantage, again, is that it is such a liberation to discover—


they’re not-self after all—such a liberation to discover it’s not our fault. And that
your business potential is not based on your lack of awareness in the way in which
you’ve operated in the past, that your business potential is something that is in front
of you and it’s in front of you if you operate correctly in the sense of following a clear
line in terms of what you’re here to do rather than what you’re not here to do.

So, when you get to the positive, as such, and obviously we have three very
powerful positives in these three definitions here we’re talking about the good, if you
will. Again, they’re not going to pay a lot of attention to it. It is simply going to
resonate with them. In other words, “I always knew I could do that.” And they’re
still stuck with their problem side. It’s the problem side that is the thing for them.
They know what they can do. And the moment that you outline it—“You’re the one
that has the capacity and the visitation; you’re the one that is here to drive things
forward. You have the energy resources to move things into the public domain.
You’re somebody that can just drive this forward, and you’re really good at going out
into the world with it. You’re really good at that level of commitment necessary to
go out there and make a difference. You have all that power, you’re the one that
can go out and do that.

“But what you go out and do, how you do it, how it’s planned, how the business is
structured, how the administration of the business is structured, how the whole inner
structure built around this dynamic force, this is what you’re not good at. So, you
need allies who love to do their part which are the ones who love to plan and
administer, the ones who love to put a saddle on you and drive the business with
your capacity. The moment that you have those forces that can do that, what you’re
going to discover is that everything is much more productive. That’s when you begin
to see profit, that’s when you begin to get success.”

The Calling Card


What I really want from the AlphaOne, and over time we will do a number of these
as examples, particularly I’m waiting mostly, I’m going to do theoretical things until
we have the program in a couple of weeks, then I will be able to give you data so
we’ll all be able to run the software together at the same time so that while I’m
teaching you, you can be using the Penta program so that we can really look at all
kinds of things and engineer together and so forth and so on. That will make things a
lot easier in the sense of the practicals that I want to do, so most of the AlphaOne
work that we’ll do we’ll wait now for the programming.

I simply wanted to be able to introduce this to you so that you begin to see that this
is our calling card, this is our key, this is our walking in the door. Psychologically it is
just perfect. If you start with where the shadow is, if you go to where the true
nature is of that being, you’re still ending up with no matter how good that stuff is
that you have, remember that without the gaps filled in you never get to fulfill its
potential, you don’t. That’s the point. And that’s the final point and it’s the point
that is hammered in the deepest. Because when you get to the end of the AlphaOne
reading what you have is somebody that for the first time in their life understands
what it means to have the right people to work with, understands it in a way that
they’ve never had before.

And yet, at the same time, like any time you do somebody’s reading, in essence you
don’t tell them anything new. Each of the beings that you will do an AlphaOne
reading for will have a recognition of those areas where they’re not good and times
where they have had relationships with people, working relationships where those
things weren’t a problem. In other words, beginning to grasp that certain people
bring certain things and that’s what makes the difference.

A Dilemma is Criteria
It also opens up something else, and I think it’s something very profound. I talked
about one of our dilemmas for any decision maker is the dilemma that we will come
to in terms of engineering because engineering always brings certain dilemmas and
the dilemma is criteria. The normal perception of criteria is that if you have a
resume that suits the job description then this is the criteria.

We change the criteria by stating that not only do you have to have a resume that’s
sort of meets the criteria and at best meets the criteria fully, but that the secondary,
which is really primary criteria of being able to fill in the necessary gap is essential.
And it begins to open up the eyes of the decision maker to the understanding that
you’re not simply looking for what somebody does as surface activity, but you’re
looking for an underlying capacity that needs to be there that has nothing to do with
their job skills. That’s an understanding that is absolutely essential for any director,
any owner, to be able to make a clear decision about BG5 and what it takes to create
a correct Penta that they need to have this understanding, they need to see that this
criteria is something that is essential for them. And it will help when it comes to
decision making time about this employee or that employee. I should say this
candidate for employment or that candidate for employment.

How interesting in the way in which that works; most of the time, when you think
about it, it’s rather odd. Let’s say you’ve got a Penta, three people, and you’re going
to bring somebody in, there’s basically one person that will hire them, one person
that meets with them in a partnership, not really within the Penta context. Given the
nature of partnerships and electro-magnetics and compromises and this and that, all
people who do the hiring have their favorites. It may be that they physically turn
them on; it may be that they have a fabulous resume, or it may be that they’re a
friend of a friend and they feel obliged, whatever the case may be they tend to have
their favorite. One of the things this brings into the mix is that the hiring is not
going to be done on genetic attraction; the hiring will be done with respect to the
essential need to fill in the gap.

Providing the Client with a Unique Insight into their Business Profile
So, everything about an AlphaOne, a BG5 AlphaOne, everything about it is providing
the client with a clear perception of your ability to be able to see them, to provide

the client with a unique insight into their business profile, their shadow, their
limitation, to open the client up to understanding that it is the other that is required
to fulfill their business limitation; in other words, for them to be a success. And as
such, opens ups the door for the interest in doing Penta analysis for the organization
or the business that they’re a part of, or in one of those ideal situations somebody is
going begin hiring to develop a business and you start at the ground floor building
the Penta around them.

Pricing
AlphaOne is wonderful. My suggestion is that the AlphaOne reading, and we’ll talk
about those things more in the third semester, I know those kinds of questions are
around, my assumption that the AlphaOne reading is somewhere between 3,500 to
5,000 euros. Again, I think that we will establish pricing based on consensus, and a
consensus that goes to the lowest common denominator in order to be able to
compensate for different areas in the world and different standards of living. But
nonetheless, I don’t think anything less than 3,500 euros for an alpha reading is
sufficient.

I think it’s very important to understand something about business analysis at any
level. It’s tax deductible. It’s a business that is investing in consulting. This is a
business expense. It is about their business success and is actually worth a great
deal. It’s also very important for you as BG5 analyst that you get your reward for
whatever work that you do. In other words, it will be very easy to do a lot of
AlphaOnes. Again, it will depend on your interest, your own personally marketing
capacities, your connection, and your network, all of those things. But, doing a good
number of AlphaOnes is something that will not be difficult. And if they’re priced at a
decent price point, minimum of 3,500 euros, that represents potentially a great deal
of revenue before you even get involved in Penta analysis.

So, we’re going to put a lot of emphasis on AlphaOne because this is your entry card
and how this leads into our deeper Penta work. But this is the key, this is how you
get into the door, this is how influence them, this is how you open them up to Penta
analysis.
