PRINCIPLE
Let A and B represent two ground points d meter apart a
and b represent their plotted location. On the table. The
table is oriented first at the station, A placing the edge of
the alidade ab, rotate the table until B is sighted ed.
Clamp the table and for a draw a rays towards C. The
table is then shifted to the station B and after centering
carefully over the ground mark the table is oriented with
station A. Pivoting the alidade about b a ray is drawn
towards C to intersect the previous ray drawn from A.
The intersection of the two rays gives the desired
location C of the point C on the same scale to which AB
was plotted proof.
In abc and ABC
angle bac = angle BAC ( By construction )
Hence angle acb = angle ACB
Since, the triangle abc and ABC are
Similar, ab = ac = bc = k
AB AC BC
ab = k , AB: ac = k, AC and bc = k BC i.e the sides AC and
BC of ABC have been reduced to the same ratio to
which the sides AB was initally plotted.
PROCEDURE
Select two points A and B on a fairly levelled ground
at sufficiently large distance apart. Measure the
distance AB directly. In case their independent co-
ordinate is available, those can be plotted to get the
location of two station.
Placing the alidade along line ba, rotate the table fill
the station A is sighted and turn clamp it.
RESULT
Compare the ground and plan distance between the
station AB, A, A2, A3, A4, A5 to B1, B2, B3, B4, B5,
For example
Scale 1 cm = 2 m
AB = 30 m in ground
By using this scale to find distance in paper by
reducing scale. AB = 30 m
=30
2
= 15 cm
Since, the distance of station AB in ground is plotted
as 15 m by using scale 1 m = 2 cm.
