Plane Table Suvey
Plane Table Suvey
PRINCIPLE
1. Let A represent the instrument station and B, C, D
represent other ground station whose locations are
required to be plotted. Lines ab, be, ad, etc are drawn
from the location a of the station A. Distance AB, AC and
AD are reduced to the same ratio . Let the ratio be
AB = AC = AD = k
ab ac ad
from a well known geometry b and c are the
points on the sides AB and AC of the triangles ABC such
that AB = AC = k.
ab ac Then line will therefore parallel to BC.
abc and ABC are therefore similar. i.e.
bc = ab = ac = 1
BC AB AC k
1. Measure the distance of AB, BC, CD, DE, EF, FG, GH,
and HA on the ground.
2. Scale the distance ab, bc, etc with scale.
1 cm = 2 m
RESULT
Compare the ground and plane distance between the
station 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
For example
Scale = 1 cm = 2 m
Building corner = 5 m
=5
2
=3.5 cm
Hence, the distance of tree, (5 m) in the ground is plotted
as 3.5 cm by using the scale 1 cm = 2 m.
