Activity 2
Emerging Technologies

1. Generative-AI
Generative AI focuses on creating new and original content, chat responses, designs,
synthetic data or even deep fakes. Examples: Chat GPT, Hey Siri, Amazon Alexa, and many more.
2. Smarter Devices
Smarter devices are electronic devices with advanced computational capabilities and the
ability to perform tasks beyond those for which they were originally designed. These devices come
with sensors and software that enable them to interact with their surroundings, collect data, and
base decisions on that information. Examples: Smart bulbs, Smart Door Lock, Video doorbells,
Smart thermostats, and many more.
3. Extended Reality
XR technology enables users to actively engage with digital content more naturally and
intuitively. Users can manipulate virtual objects with their hands, use gestures or voice commands to
interact with interfaces, or even collaborate with others in shared virtual spaces. Examples: Virtual
reality, Augmented reality, Mixed reality, Education, Entertainment, Healthcare, and Retail.
4. Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
Robotic process automation (RPA) is a software technology that makes it easy to build,
deploy, and manage software robots that emulate humans actions interacting with digital systems
and software. Examples: payroll processing like calculating total wage earnings, withholding
deductions, filing payroll taxes and delivering payment automatically.
5. Datafication
Datafication is a technology trend turning the aspects (behaviors, processes, and activities )
of businesses, customers, and users into data with the help of technologies like Artificial
Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, and many other emerging stacks.
6. Computing Power
Computing power technology refers to the computer or other electronic device to perform
mathematical calculations and process large amounts of data per second. Examples on how
powerful the central processing unit and graphics processing unit of computer.
7. 3D Printing
3D printing is a manufacturing process through which three-dimensional (3D) solid objects are
created. It enables the creation of physical 3D models of objects using a series of additive or
layered development framework, where layers are laid down in succession to create a complete 3D
object.
8. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning
Artificial intelligence encompasses the idea of a machine that can mimic human intelligence,
machine learning does not. Machine learning aims to teach a machine how to perform a specific
task and provide accurate results by identifying patterns.
9. Genomic
Genomic technologies are best defined as technologies used to manipulate and analyze
genomic information. Examples: DNA cloning, macromolecular structure analysis (X-ray
crystallography and NMR), DNA sequencing, DNA synthesis, and transgenic animals (bacteria
through mammals). Genomics, the study of genes, is making it possible to predict, diagnose, and
treat diseases more precisely and personally than ever.
10. Wearable plant sensor
The next frontier is wearable plant sensors – small devices that can attach to crops and
continuously monitor temperature, humidity, moisture, and nutrient levels. This real-time data can
optimize yields, reduce waste, detect early signs of disease, and minimize environmental impact.
