PHILIPPINE POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Define and understand what is politics and governance.


2. Know the concepts, relationships, importance and origin of politics and
governance
3. Understand the politics and governance in real life..

A. Content Standard
 The learner demonstrates an understanding of politics and political science,
governance, political ideologies, power,states, nations, and globalization.

B. Performance Standard
 The learners shall be able to clearly identify a specific political phenomenon and
how it can be studied.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Introduction (5 minutes)
1. Preliminary Activities.
2. Show a picture related to politics and governance and ask the students if what are
their reactions about it.
3. Explain that in today's lesson, they will learn about the concepts of politics and
governance.
B. Presentation (15 minutes)
1. Present the meaning of politics using a PowerPoint presentation.
a. Define politics as the process of making decisions that apply to members of a group
or society.
b. Discuss that politics involves power, authority, and conflict.
c. Give examples of political activities such as voting, campaigning, and lobbying.
2. Discuss how politics can be studied.
a. Explain that politics can be studied through various approaches, such as political
science, sociology, and anthropology.
b. Provide examples of political theories and ideologies, such as liberalism,
conservatism, and socialism.
c. Emphasize the importance of studying politics to understand how power is
exercised in society.
3. Present the meaning of governance.
a. Define governance as the process of decision-making and the implementation of
decisions.
b. Explain that governance includes the actions and policies of government
institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations and other actors.
c. Give examples of governance in action, such as the passing of laws, the provision
of public services, and the management of resources.

C. Activity (20 minutes

1. Divide the students into two groups.

3. Distribute handouts with scenarios related to politics and governance.


4. In their groups, students should analyze the scenarios and discuss the political and
governance issues involved.
5. Each group should present their analysis to the class.

D. Summary and Closure (5 minutes)


1. Summarize the main points discussed in the lesson.
2. Ask the students to reflect on the importance of understanding politics and
governance in their daily lives.
3. Encourage the students to continue exploring and learning about politics and
governance outside the classroom.

VI. Assignment:
Write a short reflection paper on how politics and governance affect their lives and the
society they live in.
