CSS LESSON 2 OBJECTIVES After accomplishing this module, the learner is expected to:
● Identify the parts of computers
● Classify the input devices, output devices, and input/output devices ● Appreciate the value of using the appropriate device in using a computer Parts of Computers A. Hardware B. Software C. Data D. Peopleware/User HARDWARE INPUT DEVICES
Input devices are the hardware
component that accepts data and instructions from t he use r or from another computer system. Input devices can be keyboard entry and direct entry. As the name implies, in the keyboard entry, data is inputted to the computer through a keyboard while direct entry creates machine- readable data on paper, or magnetic media, or feed it directly into the computer’s processor. There are four categories under the direct entry, namely: 1. Pointing Devices – as the name implies, these devices are used to select or point objects (e.g., texts, images, icons, etc.) from your screen. Examples of these are mouse, lightpen, and digitizer tablet. 2. Scanning Devices – these devices can read text or illustrations printed on paper and translates the information into a form the computer can use. Examples of these are image scanner and Bar Code Reader. 3. Audio Input Devices - also known as speech or voice recognition systems that allow a user to send audio signals to a computer for processing, recording, or carrying out commands. Its primary function of this device is to accept, combine, process, and monitor audio. Ex. microphone, audio mixer 4. Video Input Devices – devices that capture an image or video of the scene in front of it typically via Universal Serial Bus (USB) or that is built into a laptop or desktop screen.
Can also record and stores
photographic images in digital form that can be fed to a computer. OUTPUT DEVICES
Output devices are any piece of
computer hardware that displays results after the computer has processed the input data that has been entered. Output devices are classified into four components: Computer Display Monitor - It displays information in visual form, using text and graphics. The portion of the monitor that displays the information is called the screen or video display terminal. Examples of these are Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) Monitors, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors, and Light Emitting Diode (LED) monitors. Both types of displays use liquid crystals to help create an image. The difference is in the backlights. While a standard LCD monitor uses fluorescent backlights, an LED monitor uses light-emitting diodes for backlights. LED monitors usually have superior picture quality, but they come in varying backlight configurations. And some backlight configurations create better images than others. LCD Projectors – this device utilizes two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them. Printers – these devices print text or illustrations on paper. Examples of these are Inkjet or Bubble Jet Printer, Laser Printer, LCD and LED Printer, Line Printer, Thermal Printer, and Plotter. Audio Output Devices – these devices are used to play sound. Examples of these are speakers, headphones, and earphones. I/0 DEVICES
I/O devices or Input/Output devices, as
the name implies, these devices can perform both as input and output device. Examples of these are touchscreen, smart board, and digital cameras Touchscreen – displays screen that is sensitive to the touch of a finger or stylus. Options on the screen can be tapped, dragged, or pinched. Examples of these are Automated Teller Machine, Point-of-Sales System, tablet computers. Smart Board – a type of display screen that has a touch sensitive transparent panel covering the screen, which is similar to a touch screen. Digital Camera – records and stores photographic images in digital form that can be viewed on the device itself or can be fed to a computer. SYSTEM UNIT
The system unit is the
main part of the computer system, sometimes called chassis. STORAGE DEVICES
Storage devices are media used to store
data and programs for use by a computer. Computer systems can store data internally and externally. COMMUNICATION DEVICES Communication Devices are pieces of equipment or hardware designed to move information or data from one place to another. They also allow one computer device to communicate with another. Examples of these are Network Interface Card / LAN Card/ Network Adapter / LAN adapter, Modem, Router, Switch, Hub, and Wi Fi Adapter. A Hub is a networking device that allows you to connect multiple PCs to a single network, whereas a Switch connects various devices together on a single computer network. WiFi Adapter
A WiFi adapter allows your wired device to pick up WiFi signals. So
if you have a desktop computer, you can connect it to a network wirelessly. SOFTWARE DATA PEOPLEWARE
