DOCUMENTATION
We are the group of Ab Public Administration 1-A we carried on taking pictures in the
University of Eastern Philippines, Catarman Cathedral and at Freedom Park, Catarman,
Northern Samar. We search and find our subject in every institutions to portray. By the help of
our group we do successfully our project.
Social Institutions plays an important role to our society, it may interconnect to each other but
if one institution may failed to do their function it may causes conflict to our society. Structural-
functionalism has its institution, it has family, economy, health, politics, media, education, and
religion. It added politics and media because they also plays an important part to our society,
especially now during Covid-19 pandemic. It has many changes when the pandemic came
because all of us stay-at-home and it affects on how we live and how socialize especially to
other people. Structural-functionalism it has function and it has branch under of it has a
manifest function which is obvious and it may see by the society and designed to beneficial in
their effect on society. Latent function which is not obvious but has beneficial effect on society.
A functional family will promote the proper development of its members, allowing each one to
show their individuality, they will show considerations by sharing, being courteous, respecting
each individual's privacy and helping with household tasks. A dysfunctional family will create a
toxic environment that intellectually or emotionally invalidates its members.
The economy is the institutions that provides for the production and distribution of goods and
services which people in every society need, sometimes they can provide these things for
themselves and sometimes they rely on others to provide then when people rely on others for
goods or services they must have something to exchange such as currency or other goods or
services, the customs surrounding exchange and distribution of goods and services shaped
societies in fundamental ways. Every society has formed it’s social institutions and
organizations to meet all the basic needs of the people, one of these needs is to produce and
distribute goods and services to the people. Corruption is more likely the result of economic
dysfunction. For example, if an official believes that the fulfillment of a public service costs
more than the government plans to spend on its execution, there appears a wish to reward
oneself for work. A false illusion of justice arises.
Health is very important to us and health can be promoted by encouraging healthful activities,
such as regular physical exercise and adequate sleep. Health functions are the vital set of
litigations, under the major obligation of the nation, that is essential for fulfilling the
expectation of public health which is to enhance, facilitate, protect, and renovate the health of
the community through communal prosecution. In dysfunction of health is the not taking care
of the patient or in that community that gives the population damage, inaptness, trauma,
disorder, illness, invalidism, collision, unwellness, weakness, pathology, ailment, dyscrasia,
infection, suffering, uncomfortable, biliousness or any other diseases that a person take.
Politics in its political function is to encompass and legislate ‘us’ or ‘the same’ by discerning ‘us’
from ‘them’, ‘the same’ from ‘the other’. These functions underlie and influence the
relationships between religious institutions and the state on the level of the law; their role in
history often forms an important part of the collective memory of a people and their identities.
Today, it remains a foremost challenge to politics and international law to institutionalize
universal foundational claims of freedom of religion or belief and equal treatment in a large
variety of different cultural contexts. While in dysfunction there is a source of deadlocks over
budget reform is hardly a mystery, it is the mismatch between highly ideological political parties
and our divided form of government that makes passing legislation difficult even in the absence
of partisan deadlock. The voters could then hold the party in power accountable if the
programs it pursued were against voter preferences. It seems a more logical way to organize
politics and ensure that each party will have a chance to present its platform to the voters, to
have that platform enacted, and allow voters at the next election to pass on how well the party
has managed the country.
Informative functions of media also helps the audience learns about the happening around
them and get to the truth. The media primarily disseminates information through news
broadcasts on radio and television, as well as newspaper and magazine sections. Education and
information are provided by media. As a result, it is labeled "dysfunctional," implying the
inherent malfunction of both traditional and social media during contentious incidents and
events. The theory implies that it is not in people's best interests to become a politically
indifferent and passive social mass.
The function of Education's basic goal is the transmission of knowledge and the rebuilding of
social heritage, but it's role is far larger than just acquiring knowledge. According to John
Dewey, Education's purpose is to assist in the development of a helpless juvenile animal into a
happy, moral, and productive human being. Education is an powerful force in a person's life,
Influencing his physical, Mental, Social, Emotional, Ethical, Artistic, and Spiritual growth. But
when the Education is dysfunction, Any activity or behavior that has negative effects for a
community or society, such as teachers failing to teach students.
When the religion is in function it gives meaning and purpose to life. In this, people can do
change their inappropriate lifestyle and also help take away all their suffering emotionally,
physically and mentally for example is like joining activities in church, as we all know church is
the best place to take away all the anxiety and problems we definitely can talk or share to God
our problems. But when the religion is in dysfunction we all know it can create a conflict
because all of us has our own beliefs when it comes to religions.
In conclusion, these social institutions has a function and dysfunction that it effects to the
society. Whatever happens it is part of our life that society is not perfect at all. As our group
evaluate, structural- functionalism as the whole structure of society that interconnected and
accountable for maintaining balance and steadiness in the society. The importance of
structural- functionalism is to focus on how the society cooperate and how they socialize to
other people and to make as understand how society organized.
