CHAPTER ONE

1.1 Introduction

This report will discuss the factors affecting the efficiency of agriculture in

selected areas of Kafue East in Kafue District. It will also provide the

advantages and disadvantages which will help speculate the solutions to the

agricultural struggles faced. This piece of writing will broaden the views of the

problems faced which will help sanitize the district’s selected areas on how to

lessen the demerits. It will also state the purpose and aim of the research as

well as the objectives obtained by composing this piece of writing.

1.2 Statement of Research

There are multiple factors affecting agriculture due to numerous things. Pests

destroy and stunt the growth of crops. The lack of capital affects the rate of

agriculture due to its pesticides and fertilizers essential in the growth of most

vegetation are not obtained as well as the scarcity of land due to the high

population causing the land to be expensive and prompt to buy. And reducing
the number of agricultural practices. Most farmers lack the knowledge on

modern forms of agriculture which leads to not having quality equipment that

lessens the word load and also affecting the production rate of crops.

1.3 Purpose of Research

This piece of writing intends to bring to light more of the factors affecting

agriculture as well as educate the group of people affected and the government

on how to avoid them. The research will also highlight speculations and ideas

promoting the finding of solutions.

1.4 Aim of Research

The aim of this research is to find out and investigate the factors affecting the

efficiency of agriculture in a selected area of Kafue East.

1.5 Objectives

The following are the main objectives of this report:

 Identify people practicing agriculture in selected areas of Kafue East.

 Describe the meaning of agriculture in selected areas of Kafue East.


 Investigate the factors affecting agriculture in selected areas of Kafue

East.

 Discuss problems faced by agricultural participants in selected areas of

Kafue East.

 Suggest possible solutions to the challenges faced in selected areas of

Kafue East.

 Propose people’s views about the problems and how to potentially solve

them in selected areas of Kafue East.

1.6 Hypothesis

This research has null and alternative hypothesis. The following are the two

assumptions:

H0 = All the general factors affecting the efficiency of agriculture in selected

areas of Kafue East are null.

H1 = All general factors affecting the efficiency of agriculture in selected areas

of selected areas of Kafue East are valid.

CHAPTER TWO
2.1 Area of Study

The researcher carried out the research in Kafue East compound of Kafue District

located in Lusaka Province. The area has a population of approximately 10000

people.
2.2 Methods of Data Collection

2.2.1 Sampling Methods

The researcher used a random sampling technique to collect data from the

agricultural practices in the selected areas mentioned.

2.2.2 Target Population

The researcher intended to interview persons above the age of 18 years of

age. The researcher also intends to interview house heads who practice agriculture,

approximately 15 people.

2.3 Instruments of Data Collection

The researcher used instruments such as a note book, pens as well as an

interview guide to ask the respondents the questions they are required to answer.

3.1 Data Presentation

3.1.1 The Respondent’s Gender

There were 15 respondents interviewed and of the 15 there were 10 males and 5

females all of varying age.

Among the people interviewed there were 3 males aged 18-30. There were 2

females aged 31-30 and 1 male in the same age range. There was 1 female as well

as 1 male in the age range of 41-50. There were 3 males in the age range of 51-60

and lastly, 2 females and 2 males in the age range of 61-70.

3.1.3 Respondent’s Occupation.

From the 15 respondents interviewed 3 were unemployed, 4 were students and the

remaining 8 were either employed or retired.
