BACKGROUND

Schools often produce tremendous amounts of waste disposal with instructional

materials, used electronics, and food. One estimate is that 24% of school waste is

recyclable paper and 50% is food waste and non-recyclable paper that can be

composted ( Lober, 2021 )

Paper recycling helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It takes 70% less energy

and water to recycle paper than to create new paper products from trees. Recycling just

one ton of paper saves 17 trees as well as 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space ( Hughes,

2022 ). We recycle paper to turn it into new paper items and also, According to Russell

Richardson, “ you can recycle crumpled paper with regular paper recycling.”This

prevents waste and also conserves resources and energy used when making paper

from scratch. By reusing paper, we prolong the lifecycle of the materials and reduce the

carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.

Caloocan High School can lessen the excessive utilization of papers by simply

allowing students to submit homework on the back side of used paper, duplicating

handouts using both sides of paper and avoid printing extra handouts.
On the other hand, facebook, as a global technology giant, has the potential to

play a significant role in promoting the utilization of recycled paper in Caloocan High

School. One key avenue for this is through the promotion of recycled paper usage. It

can play a vital role in promoting the use of recycled paper for environmental

development by creating awareness through dedicated pages and sharing informative

posts.

The purpose of this study is to promote the utilization of recycled paper within

Caloocan High School by leveraging the reach and engagement potential of facebook.

This study aims to contribute to the school's eco-friendly initiatives and foster a culture

of responsible paper consumption among students, teachers, school's administrators

and staffs.
