Memorandum No. 187 s modification. Pilot Implementation of the School Inside a

Garden Program was a 2018 initiative.

The Students and Parents

Students were compelled to study online, with restricted access to facilities, less
interaction with classmates and teachers. The students in Grade 3 through Grade 6 asked
to give herbal and ornamental plants delivered by their parents or guardians and planted it
to MEScienceville.

The Teachers
Teachers in this pandemic are very worried about their health, particularly their
mental health, as well as the health of the students and parents. This study examined the
effects of practical, in-school gardening on teachers' health as well as the health of the
kids and parents during a pandemic.
MEScienceVille is a unique project of the science department that coordinates
with parents and instructors of students to establish and maintain gardens at home and in
schools. Growing plants has long been hailed as a relaxing hobby that provides a host of
advantages for the individual. At this time of year, when many people work from home
and many students are taking their classes at home, gardening can be a healthy hobby to
pursue.
A psychologically healthy way for teachers to combat boredom and provide
families with a sense of security might be to grow herbs and flowers in the school garden.
Our civilization has instances of how gardening may be beneficial from difficult periods.
The School
The best learning sometimes takes place in the garden, even with the best technology and
teachers. Many school grounds have gardens for aesthetic reasons, but having flowers, herbs,
vegetables, and fruit trees has many advantages that go well beyond aesthetics. Respect for one's
local surroundings should start at home and at school. The school grounds include components of
the natural environment, built environment, and social environment: soil, plants and trees, insects
and wildlife, sun and shade; water supply and sanitation facilities; paths and fences; buildings and
shelters; and locations for study and leisure activities, social interactions, and outside contacts.
Children who are aware of these issues and understand how to treat them will mature into
responsible individuals. The school's reputation in the community is improved by projects to
improve the school's grounds. Every school year, the garden curriculum should include even little
enhancements.

The MEScienceville
is a unique project of the science department that coordinates planting and gardening in
the classroom and at home with the parents and instructors of the students. Growing plants has
long been hailed as a relaxing hobby that provides a host of advantages for the individual. At this
time of year, when many people work from home and many students are taking their classes at

Seedlings like Pechay, Kalabasa, Okra and Sili are from the Quezon City Local
government in the project of Joy of Urban Farming.

V. PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED
The venue of MEScienceville is quite difficult to find since the Masambong Elementary
School is prone in flood and lack of space. The teachers improvised plant box by using the used
water container.

VI. SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The usefulness of a hands-on, school-based gardening program as an intervention for
the teachers' wellbeing during the pandemic has been researched and addressed in this paper.
When teachers themselves clean up and plant veggies in the designated space, gardening
activities can promote active involvement and attention. When teachers include gardening in
their daily activity pattern, they might pick up gardening skills as well. The physical activities
involved in gardening have a significant positive impact on people's health and wellness. The
teacher-participants are in complete agreement that maintaining the garden's health requires
weeding, watering, and caring for the plants. They also concur that everyone can gain from
the garden's upkeep in the form of social benefits, nutritional advantages, and physical
benefits that enhance one's own health. Teachers who participated in the activity had
excellent attitudes regarding gardening.

Teachers' levels of satisfaction significantly increased after participating in hands-on

school gardening activities, and they now believe that gardening activities have a beneficial
impact on one's health and well-being. Additionally, it is noteworthy that participants who are
teachers hold various parts of life in high respect, particularly in light of the current
pandemic. It seems like educators had already mastered techniques for coping with stress

during this pandemic. It has long been known that planting or collecting plants in a manner
akin to gardening activities might help people cope with stress. It is important to participate
in gardening activities to increase social interaction, communication, motivation, task
engagement, as a stress reliever, and to improve people's health, according to recurring
themes in research on how practical school gardening affects teachers' psychosocial well-
being.

VII. EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS

By means of MEScienceville, boosting out the educational morale of Masambong

Elementary School as a Educational Institution and to the teachers as an educator. People's
well-being, including social connection, stress relief, a healthier lifestyle, and a positive
outlook on life, may be enhanced through hands-on, school-based gardening. It is also in the
researchers' best interests to practice gardening at home. To learn how gardening affects kids'
academic performance and offers advice on how to deal with obstacles in life, more research
may be done incorporating gardening into the teachings.
