MAKE YOUR OWN PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR INNOVATION IN SCHOOL.

(Following the DepEd Format)

Project Proposal
Name of Proponent: Jina Marie Rico
Project Title: Establishing a School Garden
Project Time Frame: January 10, 2023 – February 10, 2023
I. Project Contacts
Ms. Jina Marie Rico, Project proponent and teacher, and Mr. Joseph E. Santillan, Principal
II. Project Summary
Lopez Jaena Elementary School in the Division of Sagay wants students to experience and learn
the purpose and importance of having a garden not only in school but also at home. School gardens
offer hands-on learning opportunities. Digging, tilling, planting, and harvesting allow students to get
their hands dirty. To bring the process full circle, some classrooms prep and cook their garden produce.
These activities not only teach students about the science of gardening, but they also teach them basic
life skills. Students can learn important social skills such as interpersonal communication, anger
management, and stress management in a school garden setting. These abilities are critical for
developing socially responsible adults. School gardens allow for group projects to be completed.
Students can collaborate to solve problems and work through issues they may encounter. They can
make their own decisions, solve problems, and gain a sense of responsibility while working in groups.
III. Project Background
School gardens can help to improve the relevance and quality of education by increasing
students and parents' knowledge of food production techniques and nutrition, as well as encouraging
the development of home gardens. School gardens instill important life skills like responsibility,
communication, teamwork, ownership, and leadership. Gardens also promote a sense of community by
bringing together parents, teachers, students, and community members.
IV. Project Objectives
School gardens can have an immediate and direct impact on students’ diets. They can provide
vitamin and mineral-rich fruits and vegetables, add nutritional value to school meals, increase variety,
which is essential for health and growth, and teach students to appreciate and enjoy variety.
V. Project Methodology
Establishing a school garden
 Form a garden committee
 Determine goals for the school garden
 Find a perfect and right place for school garden
