Works of Body Organs for Proper Body Functions

The human body contains organs that are considered vital for survival. They are
the bones and muscles, stomach, intestine, kidney, heart, lungs, and brain.
The bones support the body and protect the internal organs.
The point where two bones meet and connect is called a joint. The joints and
muscles allow bones to move.

Muscles enable the body to move. Muscles also give shape and forms to the body
and protect delicate organs.

The food gives energy to make people work and play. Without food, the bones,
muscles and other internal organs do not have energy to function. However, before the
body can make use of any food that is eaten, it must be broken down into smaller units.
The process by which food is broken down into nutrients is called digestion.

In the stomach, food is broken down into smaller particles. The stomach is a large
organ that is lined with layers of muscles. As the muscles contract and relax, food in the
stomach is squeezed, twisted and churned. Food stays in the stomach for four hours
until it reaches to the small intestine where food is finally digested and absorbed.

Kidneys are major organs of the urinary system where they perform two major
functions.
First, they remove liquid waste from blood in the form of urine and second, they
also keep a stable balance of salts and other substances in the blood and produce a
hormone that aids the formation of blood cells.
The major metabolic wastes produced by the human body like salts, water and
nitrogenous waste are filtered in the blood by the kidneys.

The heart is located between the lungs and is protected by the rib cage. The
beating of the heart is due to the contraction of heart’s muscles. The cardiac or heart
muscles contract involuntarily. Involuntary contraction means that its contractions
cannot be controlled. It continues to pump blood as long as the person lives.

The lungs filter the oxygen that enters the body because it contains filtering
structure. Lungs ensure that the heart receives clean oxygen from the lungs. The carbon
dioxide, as a waste material is removed from the body through the lungs. The heart and
lungs also work together to make sure the body has the oxygen-rich blood that it needs
to function properly.

The human brain is a highly complex organ. It is found in the head and is
protected by the skull. It controls voluntary activities like thinking, solving problems,
memorizing details and decision-making. The brain is also responsible in controlling the
movement of the body like walking and writing and controls the involuntary muscles of
the body and coordinates functions like beating of the heart and breathing.
