Introduction
Hello learners! Welcome to the exciting world of Science.

This module is designed for you to make your home-based learning, interesting and
meaningful as we care for your safety and well-being.

In this lesson, you should learn how the internal organs work together as one and why
is it important to know the parts and functions of each internal organ of the human body.

Have fun and enjoy learning Science!

“Be honest, even if others are not, even if others will not, even if
others cannot” – St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Content Standard:

 The learners demonstrate understanding on how the major internal

organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines,
kidneys, bones, and muscles keep the body healthy

Performance Standard:

 The learners should be able construct a prototype model of organism

that has body parts which can survive in a given environment

Most Essential Learning Competencies:

 S4LT -IIa - b - 1 : Describe the main function of the major organs

Formation Standards:

 The learners show how to protect their Lungs and Liver.

Learning Materials:

 The New Science Links ( Worktext in Science and Technology Revised Edition))
Authors: Fides P. Balatbat
Rolando L. Delos Reyes, Jr.
 Activity Notebook
 Activity tools

Pre- Assessment
Direction: Answer the following question.

1. Explain why we need to know the parts and functions of the 14 major
organs and the accessory organs of the body?

(The Lungs and The Liver)

Day 1
I. What to Learn

Today, you will learn about…

 Lungs

II. What to do

You will:

 Identify how the lungs work

Let’s Begin

Good day! Today we will discuss about the How the Lungs Work. To
begin with, let us watch a short video about Human Body Organs by Primary
Middle School education. Here is the link below:
https://youtu.be/-2-Ub-Q2iqI

Note: Parents, please guide your child in doing the activity.

What’s New
The Lungs
How the Lungs Work?

Our chest contains a pair of lungs, which are

made up of sections called lobes. One lung is located

on the left side of the chest and the other lung is on the right side of the chest.
Because they are soft, the lungs are protected by the ribcage.

The main function of the lungs is to combine oxygen with the blood and
to eliminate carbon dioxide. The gas that provides energy to the body is oxygen,
while the one that produces waste products or “exhaust” of the body is carbon
dioxide.

How lungs work/How we breathe?

Your lungs are a pair of organs in your chest. They have a spongy texture
and are pinkish-gray in color.

When you inhale (breathe in), air enters your lungs and oxygen from the air
moves from your lungs to your blood. At the same time, carbon dioxide, a
waste gas, moves from your blood to the lungs and is exhaled (breathe out).
This process is called gas exchange and is essential to life.

In addition to the lungs, your respiratory system includes the trachea

(windpipe), muscles of the chest wall and diaphragm, blood vessels, and
tissues that make breathing and gas exchange possible. Your brain controls
your breathing rate (how fast or slow you breathe), by sensing your body’s need
for oxygen and its need to get rid of carbon dioxide.

Let’s Try It
Search 5 pictures of the different diseases of the lungs, and then describe how
it is being acquired and what medical treatment is advised to cure the disease.
Do it on a Microsoft Word (soft copy only) and send it in schoology.

Day 2

I. What to Learn

Today, you will learn about…

 The Liver

II. What to do

You will:

 Identify the Major Internal Organs of the Body

Let’s Begin

Good day! Today we will discuss about the liver. To begin with, let us
watch a short clip about the liver by Neural Academy. Here is the link:

https://youtu.be/s2JwoqcnyS8

Note: Parents, please guide your child in doing the activity.

What’s New

The Liver

The liver's main job is to filter the blood

coming from the digestive tract, before
passing it to the rest of the body.
The liver also detoxifies chemicals and
metabolizes drugs. As it does so,
the liver secretes bile that ends up back in
the intestines.

Please turn your book on pages 94. Read more

information about the liver.

Let’s Try It

Let’s have an activity. Turn your book on pages 95. and let’s start
performing Activity 3.4 entitled ‘Liver Profile Test. Follow strictly the
procedures written on the said page. Then, answer questions 1-2
under ‘What have you found out’. Lastly, you have to write your
conclusion. Write all your answers in a short bond paper.

Dominican Value/s Learned

Every part of our body is created by God. He created it with much love
and care. As children of God, we need to take care of it and use it well
accordingly.
After learning the lesson of Major Internal Organs of the body (lungs and
liver), what important values have you learned from this lesson that you think
will help you become a better child of God?
