Insurance
According to national and university-level regula-
tions, international students are required to pur-
chase adequate and comprehensive insurance
covering the duration of their stay in the Chinese
mainland. Before entering the Chinese main-
land, incoming exchange/visiting students at
CUHK-Shenzhen should purchase an insurance
package via https://www.lxbx.net/. The insurance
package is Comprehensive Insurance & Protec-
tion Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China of
Ping An Annuity Insurance Company, Ltd. The
insurance fee is CNY 400 for half a year and CNY
800 for one year.
Incoming exchange/visiting students cannot
register at CUHK-Shenzhen without proof of suf-
ficient insurance cover as required.

Visa
You should apply for an “X” (study) visa at your lo-
cal Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General with
the required documents.
X1 Visa
is issued to those who intend to study for a period
of more than 180 days.
X2 Visa
is issued to those who intend to study for a period
of no more than 180 days (including 180 days).
The X visa is for a single entry. If you would like to
visit outside the Chinese mainland during your
study at CUHK-Shenzhen, you need to apply for
a Residence Permit within 30 days upon arrival in
China to allow multiple entries.

Applications
WeChat 微信
WeChat is one of the most widely used social
media and mobile payment apps in China. It
provides text messaging, hold-to-talk voice mes-
saging, broadcast (one-to-many) messaging,
video conferencing, sharing of photographs, and
location sharing. Users who have provided bank
account information may use the app to pay bills,
order goods and services, transfer money to oth-
er users, and pay in stores if the stores have a
WeChat payment option.
Alipay 支付宝
Alipay is one of the most popular third-party
mobile and online payment platforms in China.
Alipay is used in smartphones with their Alipay
Wallet app. QR code payment codes are used for
local in-store payments. The Alipay app also pro-
vides features such as credit card bill payments,
bank account managements, P2P transfer, pre-
paid mobile phone top-up, bus and train ticket
purchases, food orders, and vehicles for hire.

Academics
CUHK-Shenzhen offers 22 undergraduate pro-
grammes and 25 postgraduate programmes at
its seven schools. All incoming exchange/visiting
students are attached to different schools for
study and academic activities.
Study Load
CUHK-Shenzhen uses a credit unit system. In-
coming exchange/visiting students, except those
from programmes with a specific course-load
requirement, shall take a minimum of 9 units and
a maximum of 18 units per term.
Course Registration
The course selection starts in August/December.
It is mandatory to submit adequate “apply rea-
son” and sufficient supporting documents (e.g.
transcript, the required outline or the similar out-
line of the course that you previously took, etc.).
*Please note that
1. undergraduate courses are not offered to postgrad-
uates and vice versa;
2. you are able to take Chinese language courses if the
space is available;
3. you are only allowed to select courses in the course
list that we offered to you;
4. you must activate the CUHK-Shenzhen university
account before the course selection. You can use the
university account to access CUHK-Shenzhen email
account, IT services and campus facilities, etc.;
5. Schools will review and make decision on your
course application.
