For MSFS
SOUTHOAKCO

User Guide
v1.3

www.southoakco.com
Installation
Installation is simple, the product files will be placed into your
community folder (or OneStore folder if purchased via the MSFS
Marketplace). That’s it! (FBW users, see below).

**Attention users of the FBW A320:

If you purchased Real Effects via the MSFS marketplace, you’ll have to
increase the loading priority of real effects over the FBW package.

Here’s How:
1. Open MSFS and navigate to Options->General Options->Experimental
2. Turn the PACKAGE REORDER TOOL-> ON
3. In the scenery package order window, UNCHECK the box “only scenery
package”
4. Search for “southoakco-realeffectsa320”, click the down arrow until you
reach the number 1. Now, restart MSFS. Done.
Not seeing the effects while using a
3rd party livery?
Unfortunately, some 3rd party livery creators do not correctly
reference the effects file, leaving the aircraft with incorrect effects!
PC users can correct that mistake by taking the following 2 steps:
1.Copy the A320_NEO.xml file from:
Download or Download for Fly By Wire

2.Paste the A320_NEO.xml file into the model folder of the 3rd party livery:
Community\Your3rdPartyLivery\SimObjects\Airplanes\Your3rdPartyLivery\MODEL.xxxx
*If livery was purchased via the MSFS Marketplace, found here:
OneStore\Your3rdPartyLivery\SimObjects\Airplanes\Your3rdPartyLivery\MODEL.xxxx
This page is for 3rd party livery
creators. Customers, please
continue to the next page.

Attention Livery Creators! Please correctly reference the default

effects (FX) file! It’s easy! Here’s how:

1. Do not place a copy of the default A320_NEO_FX.xml in your model folder

(Your3rdPartyLivery\SimObjects\Airplanes\Your3rdPartyLivery\MODEL.xxxx)

1. Do not copy the contents of default A320_NEO_FX.xml and paste them into the
A320_NEO.xml in your model folder

1. Do reference the default effects file in your model.cfg, in your model folder:
(Your3rdPartyLivery\SimObjects\Airplanes\Your3rdPartyLivery\MODEL.xxxx\model.cfg

Include:
[models]
normal=../../Asobo_A320_NEO/model/A320_NEO.xml

That’s it! Following the above guidelines for all liveries, for all aircraft, will ensure that your are
correctly implementing your livery. Additionally, this concept will help to ensure that any
Microsoft released update will be compatible with your product.
General Notes
Humidity:
Humidity is water vapor, or moisture, in the air. Usually it’s invisible.
In the form of steam or ground fog, enough has condensed to be
seen. All air contains a certain amount of moisture, visible or not.

The relative high and low pressures associated with aerodynamic

process can cause humid air to cool and condense. This process
makes the air “visible” and is the basis for aerodynamic vortices that
are being replicated in this add-on.

Humidity in MSFS
can be set (0-20):
Engine Jet Blast of
Rain/Snow
Conditions for visibility:
The associated engine must be running, the surface must be wet,
snowy, or icy, and the aircraft must be on the ground. The jet blast
increases with intensity as the engine increases in RPM.
Engine Intake
Vortices
Conditions for visibility:
The associated engine must be running above 85% RPM, the surface
must be wet or the humidity slider must be a minimum of 15, air
temperature above 0 Celsius but below 21 Celsius. As the aircraft
accelerates, the vortices will dissipate. The vortices intensify the
with higher engine RPM.
Engine Strake
Vortices
Conditions for visibility:
It must be raining or the surface must be wet, or the humidity slider
must be a minimum of 15, and the air temperature above 0 Celsius
but below 21 Celsius. As the aircraft accelerates and rotates during
takeoff, or maintains a high pitch during landing approach, the
vortices will appear.
Engine Intake
Condensation
Conditions for visibility:
It must be raining or the surface must be wet, or the humidity slider
must be a minimum of 15, and the air temperature above 15 Celsius.
Wing Condensation
Conditions for visibility:
It must be raining or the humidity slider must be a minimum of 15,
and the air temperature above 0 Celsius but below 21 Celsius. As the
aircraft accelerates and rotates during takeoff, or maintains a nose
high pitch during landing approach, the condensation will appear.
Flap Trailing
Vortices
Conditions for visibility:
It must be raining or the humidity slider must be a minimum of 15,
and the air temperature above 0 Celsius but below 21 Celsius. Flaps
must be partially extended. As the aircraft maintains a nose high
pitch during takeoff or landing approach, the vortices will appear.
Vortices will dissipate when crosswinds exceed 25 knots.
Overheated Brakes
Smoke
Conditions for visibility:
Rejected high speed takeoffs or full stop landings at high weights
during hot temperatures can make aircraft brakes overheat.
Applying greater than 80% brake pressure (with aircraft speed
above 80 KIAS) at aircraft total weights above 139,000 lbs with an
ambient air temperature above 27° Celsius will cause the brakes to
smoke.
Engine Fire
Conditions for visibility:
Engine fires can be set to activate at the time of your choosing via
the “FAILURES” menu within the aircraft selection page. Set up your
failure. Once activated, the fire and smoke effect will display.
Saint Elmo’s Fire
Conditions for visibility:
Saint Elmo’s Fire is a visible build up of static electricity on the
aircraft’s windscreen. It happens in clouds near thunderstorms. The
effect appears when flying through a cloud for more than 1 minute,
above 20,000 ft and 220 KIAS, where the ambient air temperature is
colder than -30° Celsius (storm clouds).
Engine/APU
Startup Smoke
During the normal startup sequence, combustion of fuel will be
evident from the startup smoke emitting from the exhaust flow.
3D Landing
Lights
Conditions for visibility:
Clouds will be illuminated by the landing lights, with the landing
lights turned on.
Contrails
Conditions for visibility:
Atmospheric conditions for contrails are met, and the engine is
operative.
