SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR GRADE 10 - GALILEO


(7:30 – 8:30 AM)

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and other text
types serve as sources of wisdom in expressing and resolving conflicts among
individuals, groups and nature; also how to use evaluative reading, listening and
viewing strategies, special speeches for occasion, pronouns and structures of
modification.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner skilfully delivers a speech for a special occasion through utilizing
effective verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCY

EN10LC-IIIa-16: Listen to simplify, reorganize, synthesize, and evaluate


information to expand, review, or update knowledge.

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:


a) analyze the song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong;
b) sketch an image showing an interpretation of the song “What a Wonderful
World”; and
c) reflect the essence of the song “What a Wonderful World”

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Prayer
The teacher will begin the class with a prayer by asking a volunteer
from the class.

2. Setting of the Classroom Atmosphere


The teacher will ask the students to arrange their chairs properly and
to pick up pieces of paper. She will introduce herself to the class and
set some agreements to present formality and organization in the class
discussion.

3. Checking of Attendance
The teacher will ask the class beadle for the attendance.

4. Review
In this part, the teacher will ask the students to recall their last topic by
flashing pictures of Quasimodo and La Esmeralda.

5. Reading of Lesson Objectives


Let the class read the objective using a PowerPoint presentation.

a. Analyze the song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.


b. Sketch an image showing an interpretation of the song “What a
Wonderful World”.
c. Reflect the essence of the song “What a Wonderful World”.

B. Developmental Activities
a) Motivation:
The teacher will flash four (4) pictures. The students will look through it
and analyze it. Then, let the students share viewpoints based on the
following pictures by completing the statements “I feel that_____”, “I
think________”, “I believe that________”, “In my opinion_______”.
The students will be given 5 minutes to finish the task. With the use of
a name picker, there will be five of the students who will share their
output in front of the class as the time ends.

b) Presentation of the lesson


The teacher will ask the students what will be the topic all about in
connection with the activity earlier.

c) Discussion
The teacher will now start the introduction of the topic by introducing
the singer of the song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

Louis Armstrong (Louis Daniel Armstrong) also known as “Satchmo”,


“Satch”, and “Pops”, was an American trumpeter and vocalist. He was
among the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five
decades and several eras in the history of jazz. He was born on
August 4, 1901, and died on July 6, 1971.
(In presenting the lesson, the teacher will play a video showing nature
with the song titled “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.)

After that, the teacher will ask the students for their thoughts about
each stanza. Then the teacher will further discuss the meaning of the
song.

I see trees of green…. red roses too


I see them bloom….. for me and you
And I think to myself… what a wonderful world.

d) Enrichment
The teacher will ask the students to complete the following graphic
organizers based on what they have understood about the song.

e) Application
The teacher will divide the class into three groups. Each group must
have one representative and each representative will pick a nature’s
gift from the nature’s box. Each nature’s gift contains two stanzas from
the song “What a Wonderful World”. The students must sketch an
image of the stanzas that they have picked on one whole sheet of
paper. Then, provide a brief explanation of the task. After that, each
group should pick another representative to share their sketch in front
of the class. The students will be given 5 minutes to finish their task.

f) Generalization
To check if the students were able to understand the discussion, these
few questions may be asked by the teacher.
a. As a student, how would you relate the song to our real life?
b. Why do you think nature is important in our life?
IV. Evaluation
The teacher will let the students pick one cloud below and then answer the
question written on it. The students will be given 5 minutes to finish the task.

V. Assignment
Read in advance the story “A Day in the Country” by Anton Chekhov.
