Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well.

I am glad to announce that the first part of our BioCon


field-trip series will be this upcoming February 24-25, 2024. This aims to apply and relate our knowledge
in Biodiversity and Conservation subject in the real setting. We’ll be trailing the Bagahupi Trail located at
Sta. Elena, Tacloban City, Leyte. Here are the things to bring for this activity:

Group:

 Tents
 Lights, flashlights
 Trapal
 Portable Stove (for confirming)
 Kardero (for confirming)
 Food (for confirming)
 Foldable Tables (if may ada)
 Pisi or staw panhigot
 Guti na shovel for defecation purposes
 First-aid Kit (as a group)
 Medicine Kit
 Soil tester
 pH tester

Individually:

 Hygiene Kit
 Whistle Kit
 Measuring tape
 Bring your own utensils, like cup/flask, plate (better kun balunan)
 Extra Money
 Extra clothes
 Slippers
 Drinking water
 Snacks
 Mist net, spotting scope, DSLR camera (care of Sir Rey)

What to wear:

 Trekking shoes, or any shoes with spikes for good surface grip
 Dri-fit shirt, preferably green, blue or black
 Trekking pants, cargo pants, or leggings as long as it is not easily ripped. Preferably green, blue
or black
 Hat, cap, preferably green, blue or black.

Guide:

Since we are not so familiar of the area, we will be hiring two guides. In return of their service, the
guides will be compensated an amount of 700.00 pesos each. Part of their service are: leading us
towards the camp area, ensure our safety from locals and possible dangers during the trailing and in the
camp area, and assist us to the extent of their abilities only.

Itinerary:

Saturday

7:00-8:30 AM - Arrival to the meeting area

8:30-10:00 AM - Lecture on the standard protocols of biodiversity assessment (flora, fauna)

10:00 AM-12:00 PM - Start of the assessment and trailing

Group 1 (8 members) – Rapid Flora Diversity Assessment

Group 2 (8 members) – Rapid Fauna Diversity Assessment

12:00-1:00 PM - Lunch

1:00- 3:00 PM - Continuation of the trailing and assessment

3:00-4:00 PM - Arrival to the camp area; Camping

4:00-6:00 PM - Leisure; early dinner

6:00-8:00 PM - Herping

8:00-9:00 PM - Data cleaning and preparation, hygiene

9:00-onwards Free time, sleep

Sunday

4:00-4:30 AM - Preparation for birding

4:30-8:00 AM - Bird watching

8:00-8:30 AM - Packing things up for leaving; breakfast

8:30-10:00 AM - Trailing back down
