Speech Topic: MORALITY DEGRADATION IN INDONESIA’S YOUTH

As we may not realize that, Indonesian has known not only as a gorgeus country, but also
known as a very friendly and moral country. However, student brawls, bullying, robberies,
murder, free sex, drug abuse so on that happening in youth today, just make these
assumptions all disappear for an instant.
What is the main factor of this deviation?

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

First of all, let us praise and grattitude for the presence of almighty god, who has given us the
strength and healthyness so we could still stand together this morning. Secondly may
shalawat and salam always be delivered to our prophet Muhammad SAW. who has embraced
us from the dark age into a happiness and bright future that we are living today. Last but not
least, let me introduce myself, my name is Muh. Naufal B. I’m from 12 IPS 1, thank you to
the judges for giving me this opportunity to deliver my speech in front of you with the topic
“MORALITY DEGRADATION IN INDONESIA’S YOUTH”
What is degradation? Degradation means setback, or decline in something, while morality
is a moral or character that we always shown to other people. If we interpret both, Moral
degradation is a phenomenon of decrease in human behavior due to the lack of self-awareness
about absolute obligations. According to Licona (2013) there are Ten(10) indication of
symptoms of decline in moral that needs more attention in order to change for the better:
1) violence, 2) theft, 3) cheating, 4) disregard for applicable rules, 5) brawls between student,
6)intolerance, 7) using a language that very rude to people, 8) sexual maturity that is too early
and deviation, 9) self destructive attitude, 10) drug abuse.
Today, we are living in a materialistic world where the standard of living has risen but at
the same time, standards of life is waning unabatedly. Back in the past, youth victims of
drugs reached over 1.1 million or about 3.9%. this data was taken in 2008, by taking samples
from 33 provinces in Indonesia. In other hand, data from DKI Jakarta centre for social
disorders,state that elementary, middle until high school student were involved in a brawls
over 1.000 student out of the total around 1 million more student in DKI Jakarta. In fact, 26
of them are died. The problems of today’s youth do not end there. There are soo many cases
of student fighting their teacher, using a harsh words without considering around them, some
even have their heart to abuse their own teacher to death, Just like what happened in Madura
4 years ago.Of course, this has gone too far, yet there is no longer respect and ethics
embedded in students nowadays.
The erosion of moral values in our society has become a very disturbing phemonenon.
Now what we can observe these days that youths has lost their morality completely and the
most contributing factor towards this declining morality is youth’s inclanation towards
mobile phones and internet.

Mobile phone/internet addiction has grown among the youths of today. We generally see
small kids using mobile and internet from the day till late night. Due to this emerging
addiciton, they have lost moral and ethical values.The agencies of education such as family,
school and society play an important role in developing ethical and moral values among the
youths of today.But unfortunately due to some social and economic factors many families are
disoriented, diosrganized and confused and eventually failed to play this vital role.our
institutes of learning are preparing efficient individuals but not good citizens.

Discipline today is lacking among the young children. They do not obey the elders and
often disrespect them.In modern era, ethical and moral values are degenerating as people are
becoming more and more self centered. So there is need of moral principles and values to be
imparted in children to make them a better and responsible citizen. Human values and
proffesionalq ethics must be given due recognition if we want to make a crime free society.

At the end of my speech, Let’s together as the next generation of the nation, to start
controlling our bad habits, maintaining our mental stability, which could degrade our morale
as students in today’s onslaught of technology. In what way? That is by way of let us filter
any information that we get through the internet. I think that’s enough from me, thank you for
